Mexican? At an Italian restaurant? I have to admit that when a restaurant does two unrelated cuisines like that I tend to think that they don't do either one very well. (Thai Roma, anyone?)
It's called Napa. Which is in California. I don't think it has ever claimed to be an Italian restaurant.
yeah, definitely not an italian restaurant. i think this is a great idea. the "california" cuisine they serve now is fantastic so i don't see anything wrong with expanding into mexican.
NAPA 1015
Many restaurants along the H Street corridor offer different alternatives on one special night geared towards the neighborhood. After talking to many of our regular patrons about offering our own special night, we came to the conclusion that Mexican food would be well welcomed. I know this is completely different from our menu but, that is the idea. Besides, being different is what makes the Atlas district unique!
We hope to see you on Thursdays or any other day of the week.
Cheers!
Jorge
P.S This Mexican Menu will start after Memorial Day
Better Question????? What restaurant in their right mind closes for three days during a Holiday weekend. I have worked in the industry for a while and havent see anything like that before. Must not be motivated...
cuz a lot of the locals leave dc during this particular holiday?
Went on Friday. Everything was really good although my filet was slightly overdone. Can't complain otherwise, it's great to have a nice restaurant in the neighborhood.
If you're accusing Napa 1015 of not being motivated, I'm guessing you haven't been there. Just meeting Jorge gives you a sense of his dedication to the restaurant and H St.
Anyone who takes the time to respond to (often ridiculous) critiques on this blog gets an 'A' for effort in my book.
I believe they've changed the menu, lowered prices, created better signage and changed the times of Happy Hour, partly in response to feedback on this blog.
The comment about "motivation" must be trolling, which I normally wouldn't dignify, but Napa deserves to be defended against that accusation.
I agree totally with Adam Smith. Jorge's idea of offering a twist on traditional Tex-mex by testing this one night a week "Cal-mex" menu may be the most innovative thing he's come up with since the tapas offering. What's wrong with having a neighborhood restaurant that's as eclectic as the neighborhood?
In other news, the Sticky Rice website indicates that they will be open this Friday!
What is nice about NAPA is it is truly one of those neighborhood places with the owner actually there. Almost like neighborhood restaurants in New York or Philadelphia where the family is involved. And there is a certain easy elegance about NAPA. We haven't seen this for a long time and folks should be happy. I appreciate the individuality.
Whoops, don't know why I thought it was Italian (or why I didn't bother to look this up first). I'm sure Mexican night will be interesting.
good authentic mexican (or cal-mex or any other variation on mexican) is hard to find in this town, and i'm sure napa will do it well. great addition to an already delicious menu! as for being closed on memorial day weekend, that's not so weird -- people mostly clear out of town or are busy with BBQs. even restaurant owners need a break.
CRASH AND BURN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like Napa's regular menu so I'm looking forward to trying the Mexican night. Can't beat those prices either - most expensive dish is only $16...and $5 margaritas! Que rico, que suave!
I'm another Napa fan. I think the mexican menu looks really interesting. I 'm looking forward to checking it out.
Everyone deserves a break, happy vacation Jorge!
jeeezus.
support you local 'high scale' restaurant!
it'll affect your property values, folks.
eat and be merry.
you could spend twice as much as NAPA if you went to china town for a movie and a legal seafood/tony cheng dinner.
quit bitching and enjoy your neighborhood. there's some really good stuff to be found, if your not scared of venturing out past your block, AND spending a bit of focused dough.
i find it hard to believe that you all work for non-profits and can't/won't afford shit...
or that you don't know how to support your 'hood'.
get out more often in your own hood!
yeah, babee!
I can't believe I agree with poo poo.
I went to the Sunday brunch with my parents recently, and the experience was excellent. Both service and food were above par and I would go back. Prices were competitive with lots of brunch places in DC, and I feel that the value was good.
i haven't gotten down to napa yet, but i'm definitely trying to get down there next thursday to try this out!
What got poo poo so worked up? I couldn't figure out who he was responding to.
Gotta say, that bartender in the photo is hot! Gotta go for the wine tasting, uh and the view.
