Nickles & the chief had a blast with Mendelson and made him look stupid.

Has anyone seen footage online of the hearing?

could someone post a link to any footage online?

If you go to the DC Council website, they have a link to past hearings.

I watched off and on for awhile...it seemed that the overwhelming sentiment was against the checkpoints. Not that people didn't want something done. I didn't think Nickles was very impressive and enjoyed Mary Cheh's spar with him.

Checkpoints in only ONE location is a waste of time. It would be like asking people to stop at customs at ONE border crossing, but none of the others.

CCTV-Street Cameras? I've seen CCTV's at major intersections in DC, perhaps place cameras in high crime areas -- or the whole city to avoid the response, "the criminals will move to where the cameras are not located."

I agree with you, not a bad decision. I guarantee the next poster says, "This is a violation of my civil rights!" "I am calling the ACLU"

BTW if interested, there is a very good article in the Washingtonian this month which discusses the riots of 68 and why we are in the god awful position in the 1st place
