Open ID test run

I'm doing an Open id test run. For most of you non-bloggers this might require [I think] getting a Google account. My hope is that this will cut down on trolling. You can get a Google account and still be totally anonymous here. Give it a shot. Read more about Open ID here. It isn't a nasty tracking type thing, and NOBODY here will know who you are. Please email me at inked78[at]hotmail.com if you have ANY issues with this system and I will switch to Google logins. Happy 4th of July.

UPDATE
===============================

Not only will any Yahoo ID work as an Open ID, but here is a list of other Open ID providers, including at least one that allows you to set up a completely anonymous account with no verification.

lame.

i hope you don't specialise in civil rights.

byeeeeee....

and good luck.

Please note from the profile of dcboy, who obviously didn't specialize in civil rights law either [or else he would understand what the civil rights law actually impacts], that you can totally restrict public access to your profile on Blogger.

you go through google, you're cataloged.

trust me.

i know.

i don't care because this is not my account. :o)

have fun!

Then use Open ID. By the way, you are pretty much always tracked anyway by certain parties. If you think an anonymous post is really anonymous when it comes to a lawsuit, think again. Google accounts, or Open ID accounts don't change anything.

nice. there goes inked threatening lawsuits.....

get a real blog, or join little bush et. al.

scarey shit on frozentropics these days....

bye.

have fun.

i'm curious to see your next step..

in curtailing freedom of speech.

this is not a blog......

it's a venue.

won't be voting for you next election....

I think this is a good idea. Great blog!

inked: Thanks. I think it's a great idea.

dcboy: You're an idiot.

First with OpenID!!! FYI Yahoo! is an openid provider. This warms my heart as an federated identity geek.

Thanks. Hopefully it will lead to less problems in the comments.

This is just a test run. It isn't necessarily permanent.

great move, very happy about this...

Great move. Some of the threads lately really have gotten overheated, to the detriment of discussion. I hope this helps.

For those opposed, consider that pseudonymity is still a possibility (i.e., just create an account somewhere with no personally identifying information) and, in any case, you can always start your own blog.

Thanks to Inked for taking an unfortunate, but necessary step.

Also, thanks to dcboy for proving that one doesn't need anonymity to be a troll.

Anyone else think that dcboy sounds a lot like poo poo??

Good move, inked!

Way to go. I normally comment as "rob" but just for grins, I'm trying this comment out with my Live Journal id, which is one of the ones it shows on the open ID thing.

Rob said...

Ok, that was interesting. I popped me over to Live Journal (which I was logged into) and asked if I wanted to give permission to Blogger to use my ID. I said "Yes, just this time".

So, it works in that case anyway and wasn't too onerous.

I'm a big fan of moderated comments. My attitude is that even though you blog about the community, it is your blog and you have the right to censor out the bull*%t.

Also, first rule of dealing with trolls is to never respond to them. Then you ban them. Nobody wins in troll wars.

I hope you continue to post about our great neighborhood.

I like it, but I don't necessarily like the fact that it gives my name... If that's what I have to give up to not have to read hateful posts, so be it.

I hope this cuts down on the rampant douchebaggery.

As someone who has been signing my comments from the start, I've got no problem whatsoever with this. Anonymity is still safe, but it definitely helps to be able to reply to other people's comments by name instead of 'Anonymous 5:24.'

Don't blame you for doing this, inked - things have gotten pretty ugly in some threads lately.

Off topic: Does anyone know what was going on H at 14th on Saturday afternoon? (Around 2 or 3?) There was a lot of police activity there ...
