I went to Granville's yesterday and the service was just terrible. When we arrived we were told we could sit at any table we wanted. Our waitress took our drink orders, and then came back and said if we wanted to sit at a table we needed to order entrees. Keep in mind we were there relatively early, and only planned on having a few post-work drinks and appetizers. We ordered appetiziers for the table, but apparently this wasn't good enough because she kept coming by asking us to order meals.

After we finished our first round of drinks, we sat with empty glasses for an extended period of time. Our waitress decided she was now tending bar and was no longer servicing our table. So we waited and waited until she finally came back and took our drink orders.

It's my understanding the Granville's is a pub not a restaurant, they just happen to have excellent food. So, if they are simply a pub, why the hell do I have to order an entree to sit at a table? We ordered well over $100 worth of drinks, is that not good enough? Also, is it standard practice for a waitress to ditch her tables to tend bar with no notice?

Our experience at Granville's yesterday was unacceptable. Get your act together or you will lose my business.

...because people want to "hang out" and get drinks

I hate to break it to you Sick of Waiting, but Granville Moore's is a bar where people should expect to be able to hang out and relax over a few beers. If you don't like it, go to restaurant that takes reservations.

I love Granville's, but anonymous 11:22 is on to something. The service is terrible and the staff give the impression that waiting tables is just not what they want to be doing. A place with excellent food, should find a few people who are interested in serving.

Staff at Sticky Rice seem to have the same attitude.

the restaurant was just featured on the FOOD network because their FOOD is so good. a lot of people want to go there to eat this FOOD but have to wait for a table because you are wasting space not eating. why don't you go to the bar next time for drinks? or why don't you just order an entree?

take into account the fact that there isn't much space there and that they're quickly gaining popularity and you shouldn't be so surprised that the wait staff was annoyed with you.

next time you just want drinks go to the red and the black or the pug.

Granville Moore's is supposed to be a European style pub where people can hang out and have drinks. It's not a restaurant.

The wait staff should not be annoyed by people who want to just drink because they make significantly more money on drink orders than they do on food.

When I go to Granville's it's typically for dinner, but even when I order drinks and an entree I find that the staff is just lousy and rude.

Lastly, this is copied and pasted directly from Granville Moore's website: "like a pub, should you choose not to eat, you may drink without ordering food."

Why do I always get good service at GM?

I find that the table service at Granville's is typically very bad. If you sit at the bar the service is great, but they hired the some of the worst wait staff in DC. I will always sit at the bar from now on. I'm fed up with the attitude and overall incompetence of the wait staff.
