"Urban Taste"? Why does that slogan worry me?? Maybe (hopefully) it's referring to the decor?

I met these guys twice and they brought be through thr buildout. I am pretty sure from everything they explained that "Urban Taste" has to do with the buildout and decor

Good to know--I'm excited for this place, but I'm hoping it is more akin to a still-traditional but upscale A. Litteri's (that delivers!), rather than some attempt at modernizing or urbanizing basic italian deli food. You can't improve on perfection.

Heres hoping it doesn't turn out to be another crappy pizza/sub joint run by Akhbar and Mujiber. DC already has too many of these...

This neighborhood is so desperate for REAL italian food and ingredients...these guys will do loads of business if they keep it high quality, REAL italian. If they do catering too they will really clean up. Think about how many people on the Hill would love to have a high-quality local option to cater their various high-society parties. If they do it right I can't see how these guys fail. I've got my fingers crossed!

Who are Akhbar and Mujiber?

"Heres hoping it doesn't turn out to be another crappy pizza/sub joint run by Akhbar and Mujiber. DC already has too many of these..."

I hate when threads gets de-railed, but what if it were a crappy place run by "REAL" italians? Would that be any better? Of course not, so I think JJ's inclusion of these ethnic names in the comment is not really relevant.

I for one am looking forward to Taylor's opening. I can never get to Litteri's as often as I would like.

Besides, I think the reference jj was going for was Sirajul and Mujibur from the Letterman show.

So, I walked down the 1400 block of H today and noticed a couple new things (to me, anyway).

-- "Buka Restaurant - African and International Cuisine." Permits in the window, and it looked about to open. Nothing fancy, but here's hoping the food is good.

-- "Rags 2 Riches Vintage Clothing." Looks like maybe it's been there awhile? Unclear. Wasn't open.

-- An urban clothing store next to the Argonaut. (forgot the name).

-- And it looked like they are repaving the lot at "Florida Motors" at the corner of 14th and H. Man am I not excited for more used cars there. Anyone know if they have the right permits?

Speaking of Florida Motors, anybody have an address of that business? A permit was applied for for 1400 Florida Ave, NE over a year ago, but the even numbers should be on the north side of the street. I can find no record of anything being applied for at the DCRA website.

I'm hoping it'll have more customer-friendly hours than Litteri. When I get off work today, I need to pick up some bucatini; the only place I know to get it is Litteri, and they'll be closed.

Public Space meeting tonight, per Greater Greater Washington blog!

"Public space hearing on 10th and Maryland Shell: This is the first of two opportunities to stop the proposed Shell in Northeast Capitol Hill. 10 am at 941 North Capitol Street, 7th Floor. "

For the public space meeting:

NOT tonight... tomorrow (Thursday) morning at 10 AM.

Maybe this swank Urban deli will have a CB2 in the back :-)

I don't know what JJ is trying to get at. All I know is I love Citi Pizza...every time I take a bite I say Al hamdu lillah for good pizza.

i just wish that they would repave the alley behind the building, it's in really bad shape.

Tom A. said...

anonymous, have you ASKED the city to repave that alley? They're usually quite responsive, especially now, since we are in a short-term "focused improvement area."

Since they have the ability to show samples at the oktoberfest, did they also have a booth at the H st festival? Sometimes, it sucks to have to work on Saturdays...

The public space permit for Shell has been delayed until next month. ANC 6A requested a delay as the current permit does not include all the public space issues they need to resolve to move forward. In short, they are only asking for the placement of their sign in public space under this permit. Which is well short of the total public space issues they need to address.

Hopefully this place will be cleaner than litteri. I went for a sandwich today and there grime all over the kitchen area, sign by the kitchen

DCJaded said...

the grime makes it taste better. If you want sterile, move to the suburbs. I dont care if the sign is clean. I only care about the taste of the sandwiches and the cleanliness of the food prep area.

If they do pizza...that would be cool.

The garage door is a neat touch that they are doing...I'm excited about the place.

They were not at H Street festival. I think that they are after the more up scale Barracks Row demographic ...

By the way, you should have seen the look on the Chevy Chase Bank manager's face when I suggested that they open their next branch on H !!! Hint, their next bank will not open on H Street. So much for being your local hometown bank.

I went to see what they were all about yesterday at the Barracks Row Festival. Let me say the sample I had was the absolute best sandwich I have ever tasted. Blows everything in DC away and probably NY for that matter. Cannot wait until they open.

I cannot wait for this place to open. We went over on Saturday to see what Taylor was all about. The sample was small but the booth was packed with people. The italian sandwich we tasted was amazing. This is going to be a good addition

Had a sample this weekend too--This place is going to put me into the poor house. And the fat house. And I will be a happy man.
