H Street Heritage Trail Application Approved

The application for a heritage trail on H has been unanimously approved. It will take at least a year to write everything, and they may wait until the streetscape has been completed, but H Street will one day have heritage trail markers similar to the ones you can find on U Street.

>at present, the work is scheduled to continue through spring 2011

Are the new telephone poles and wire along the south side of H street for the light rail?

>no. those poles are temporary for rerouting power and phone during the construction. If you look between 7th and 6th you can see temporary traffic signals were hung on Friday in the eastbound lane to handle lane reductions during construction. Bulk of work right now is still focused on increasing water, gas and electric capacity (that's why the middle of the street has been ripped up repeatedly). The sidewalk work should start soon. Light rail will be that last thing you will see (if it ever materializes at all)

How can we get involved with volunteering to write for the H Street Heritage Trail?
