A New Day For Capitol Cleaners

IMG_3724
You may recall what a certain dry cleaners in the 1300 block of H Street where some residents refused to go because it was encased in bulletproof glass. A while back that dry cleaners shut down and a new dry cleaners, with the same name [and old sign] has taken over the space. While the name remains the same, everything else has changed. The management is new. The bulletproof glass has been replaced by exposed brick and a sleek airy feel. I haven't tried their services yet, but I received a positive report just the other day. Stop by and give them a shot [then report back here]. Removing bulletproof glass/rolldowns is a big leap for a merchant.

that used to be my dry cleaners.

refused to go because of bulletproof glass? would these critics have jumped in front of the counter and taken a bullet for them if they were being robbed? LOL. how are you going to criticize someone else's safety precaution?

"this car must be safe, it doesn't have a set belt!"

and I don't know if I'll "stop by and give them a shot" now that they're removed the bulletproof glass, but maybe I'll take a stab at it...

I'll take a stab at the new place and give it a shot, but I refuse to be asphyxiated by the chemicals!

Unrelated except that there's an X2 stop on that block: On today's Kojo Namdi show a woman called in and complained about the X2 to the head of WMATA. Unfortunately he ducked the X2 portion of the question.
It's at about 39 minutes 40 seconds of the show, which is here..
He does say that bunching is partly due to bad management on WMATA's part and that things should start to improve in January.

Sorry if this comes up twice-- it just gave me an error message.

I've used them twice and have been very happy. The young guy at the counter is setting up shop for his parents. They own another cleaners next to the 13th & Penn SE Safeway. The guy (Brandon?) is an architecture student and designed the new interior himself. Friendly, quick (same day) and good quality. I will continue using them.

For Tom who is afraid of the chemicals-- it's all organic because of regulations for new cleaners. No need to worry.

A separate note to all those who comment in this space: Lighten Up! Not every issues needs to be turned into a racial/class battle.

i think it's great. i didn't used to shop at the little bodega on 3rd and F street, because of the protective glass. they tore it down, and now i go there all the time. i talked with the owner, and she said that business has improved substantially. it's always busy.

it works people. chill out. i'm giving the cleaners my business because they're taking a stand.

does NAPA have bullet proof glass?

no.

sorry, but the pro bullet proof glass folks get seven demerits in my book.

unless of course they bullet proof their cars, coats, and umbrellas....

in that case, they get 250 "merits" for being paranoid and backwards.

them's my two pennies.

an another note, i stopped by the liquor store on third and h to get the obligatory cabernet (which they buy just for me). three people ahead of me wanted to buy a half pint of .. curvosier gran cru, and half pint of crap i've never heard of.

anyway, they all bitched and moaned about how expensive it was, and that they would buy it back in MARYLAND.

i don't think the singles ban is going to have much of an economic effect on that place, even though the owners told me they would petition against the ban for their particular store.

Poo poo (& others)

You can now get wine at the L Street Market at 4th now as well, as of this week.

hey bro, if someone's so scared they feel they need bulletproof glass, i generally figure it's because they got a gun pulled on them before. my neighbor's father just got robbed on his front stoop. a little bit of fear is understandable. what's so bad about bulletproof glass anyway? would you feel better if it were glass that bullets could penetrate?

great idea, soul searcher!

i'm bummed i pulled the grates from my front door, maybe i should put them back on.

do you have a contact for a place that sells bulletproof windows, clothing, or .... paint?

methinks that will improve the neighborhood, if we all install that crap.

thanks in advance!
