Found: Pregnant Pitbull

IMG00026
Friday night police picked up a pregnant 35-40 pound female pitbull mix running across the 1300 block of Florida Ave. They took her to the New York Ave animal shelter. She was not wearing a collar, and appeared to be very fearful. I've also heard that she appeared to be very skinny and underweight. Here is a photo of the mystery pit.

Wow, a pit bull running free. That's something you don't hear about every day.

Thank goodness it didn't do anything "pit bull-ish"

That looks like a Pit Bull owned by William Bynum, son of Rev. Bynum on the 100 block of 15th St., NE. My neighbor Caroline found her running free a few weeks ago and William came to claim her. They live in those run down townhouses next to the Jesus is the Way "church" if you want to contact them.

I do not have a phone number for him or an e-mail but I think their address is 123 or 125 15th Street NE. I will knock on their door tonight and let them know...her name might be Sugar...something like that.....

If someone lets a pregnant dog roam free multiple times without a collar, why would you ever want to help them get the pup back? If she is, in fact, underweight to boot I would think that speaks pretty clearly to her owners ability to provide humane care.

I would encourage you NOT to let the suspected owner know where she is.

I have seen this dog before. I was terrified the first time I encountered the dog and it was roaming around free. I can pinpoint where the owner lives too, but I think that's been done already. To the dog owner(s): please be more responsible I was not the only one terrified a woman (stranger) walking in the neighborhood at the same time that I was frantically trying to get into my home practically forced her way into my home with me just to get away from your dog. Thanks...

DC has laws, lets enforce them. Ticket the owner, make him get a dog license, and charge him for the days the dog was kept at the animal shelter.

I agree! Don't return her to her original owners! I just can't stand inhumane treatments to animals. They should be prosecuted.

She looks adorable!
