WP: Used Cars Lots on Bladensburg

The Post reports on the used car lots on Bladensburg Road and how the city is cracking down on those lots.

Terribly written article. The fact is these 'dealerships' are more often than not fronts for the sale of paper tags to those that don't want or can't get legit insurance and vehicle registration.

This sort of thing isn't tolerated in the burbs. Why should we put up with it?

If they are a legit car dealer then they can prove it. Apparently, to date very few have proven to be legit.

But Hillman, these non-District residents have been making life for DC residents shittier for *decades*. We must respect their traditions.

As far as I'm concerned, they can take their questionably legal, non-resident, raffish asses out to suburban Maryland or Virginia.

The subject of the article was interesting, but it wasn't developed very well. I would have liked a clearer explanation of what nefarious deeds the non-compliant dealers are accused of doing, and what, exactly, the dealers need to do to comply with District law. It was impossible to judge, based on the article itself, whether the dealers are getting what is coming to them, or are just low-value businesses being oppressed by The Man (the article hinted at the former, but also suggested the latter).

which lots were shut down? I drove along Bladensburg Rd this morning from NY ave and all of them still have cars in their lot.

OT, but since you've posted stories about Cafe Roma here in the past, Elise, I wanted to give you a heads-up: there was a post to ANC-6A, capitolhilldc, and the Rosedale Citizens' Alliance mailing lists indicating that Cafe Roma is closing down.
