My girlfriend received an email over the weekend from Will of the old Willpower gym. She had just signed up for personal training when the business went under. Will reiterated some of the things he said in his earlier emails that there was some weird coup d'etat by one of his friends or business partners, and that person took ownership of all the equipment. He said he is starting to reimburse people that had unused balances and was going in alphabetical order. Just a heads up for anyone still waiting for money. Fitness Together might be a good alternative.

Yeah, I heard the same thing too. I really liked WillPower and I'm sad to see it go. Shortly after the gym closed, Will referred members to Fitness together, Sherwood rec and Total U. That act and his committment to refund clients shows character. I wish him well, regardless of how or why the gym closed. He was good for the neighborhood.

the business partner who screwed will over better have a kick ass plan for attracting new members because I guarantee most of the old members won't be back after the way this thing went down.

I think that Will's story is sad but it's not the whole story. He had not paid any rent in over a year. I think the "business partner" could be the landlord keeping the equipment to make up for his year's worth of lost rent.

Anyone know how much the personal training sessions cost with the FT discount? There were no prices on the website.

No way that the land lord could legally keep the equipment for non payment of rent. My bet is that the equipment isn't paid for, and it is owned by the finance company.

On the cost, "Our prices range between mid $60s and mid $80s per session depending on how many sessions a client decides to purchase. The ultimate price of your package will depend on your current level of fitness and your fitness goals."

As far as I can tell, this is a fine business and a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Still: Maybe I'm just cheap - OK, I am cheap - but I cannot for the life of me understand the appeal of personal training. If you just do 2 sessions a week, that's something like $7,000 a year. Compare that to the $90 or so a month to join Results, the $150 or so for a year at the gym at Sherwood, or the $0 I pay to run on the Mall and do some pullups at the playground. (I can understand doing a few sessions to learn appropriate techniques, but not sustained use.)

I'd be curious to hear from others why it's worth the cost.

I recently bought a work-out package at Fitness Together and really enjoy going.I still have about 6-8 sessions left. Not only do they provide a 1-1 training, but they help to re-vamp your eating habits and really watch what you are consuming and how you are working out. They make it all about your personal goals. The work out are varied so you don't get bored and they rotate through trainers so you aren't with the same person all of the time. No, I don't work for them, I am just really enjoying the program.

Stephanie,
Would you mind sharing how much you pay for the package you mentioned? I have been considering going to them for awhile but am a little hesitant with the $60-$80 charges.

Anonymous,
It is kind of expensive, but I think worth it. The package I bought works out to around $70 a session. (I bought the 25 session package) But... the larger the package, the less the individual sessions cost. I figured for the amount of money I have spent on workout DVD's and such that I don't use... here is something that I know I HAVE to go to, because I have paid a lot of money for... not so easy to slack off on this one.

As much as I want this business(and any good business in our area)to thrive, I'll be running on the mall with npm rather than paying over $1000 for personal training. We're in a recession for pete's sake - im storing that cheese under my matress!

I recommend riding a bike to and from work. Much cheaper. Great ad though.
