Will there be a pool at the new Joe cole?

No there will not be a pool, the plans are in the planning phase but will be finalized in the next two weeks. The central theme is that the campus for Wheatley and Joe Cole will be combined.

A new Joe Cole will be build attached to the Gym already under construction for Wheatley. The Gym for the school will be shared with between the School and the Rec. It's seems similar with to the DCPS school that I attended years ago, the gym was shared and there was rarely a problem. Once the new Joe Cole and a new play ground are built, then the current Joe Cole will be razed. Once that is completed a new field and park will be built. There are about three phases to this project.

Phase 1, finish Wheatley and build a playground area. (Due: Start of School 2009)

Phase 2, build new Joe Cole (Due: 15 Months

Phase 3, raze current Joe Cole and build state of the art Field (Due: Summer 2010)

Once built this will be an amazing resource for the school, the immediate community and the wider community, IMHO.

I have some pictures that I can share if people are interested.

sounds like the usual afro-americans play basketball and don't swim, or read books place.

Wow, not sure how to respond to that comment and so I wont, but there is a move afoot to develop an Aquatic Center at the Trinidad Recreation site. There is planning (A&E) money in the budget toward this project. If you would like to support this project please contact CM Thomas' office.

Thank you,

Robby,

I'd like to see those pictures. Will the kids actually be able to USE this playground? I never see kids playing at the playground at that school on 6th and K, and it looks like it's been completed for quite some time now.

I wonder if anon 4:02's ever been to Banneker during the summer, or even to the Aquatic Center at Eastern Market for that matter.

That my point. Pools are excluded in afro-american communities because of stereotyping. People of all ages, AND SEXES enjoy swimming.

anon 4:02,

So you haven't been to Banneker:) Just because the facilities are not in your neighborhood doesn't mean that people do not utilize them. DC's smaller than you think. I go to the Aquatic Center in Eastern Market, for example, fairly frequently. It's close (a fifteen min bus ride will do, if you do like biking like like me), and the mix in the summer is a broad as LOCAL seniors, to hill staffers, to LOCAL kids. Still, it's never really full, which would come to question why would there be a need for more if the ones already in operation are not being used.

Thanks for the pics, robby.
