reports that public hearings will be held on the proposal to cut bus service rather than raise fares by a nickel. According to the article, Metro is supposed to have a list of the proposed cuts up on its website some time today. It doesn't appear to be up yet, but it does look like Metro has
really spiffed up the site since my last visit.

I submitted another complaint this morning through the WMATA site about the overcrowding on the X2 during the morning rush. This morning a huge crowd of us waited for at least 25 minutes at 13th and H NE as two full buses passed without stopping. Only a few of us were able to get on the bus that finally stopped. All of the X2s I saw were the normal sized buses rather than that extended accordion style buses.
Last fall when I complained about this problem someone from Metro actually got back to me and said they were adding new buses, so the problem would be fixed soon. That obviously hasn't happened. I really hope the X2 isn't on the proposed list of service cutbacks because that would be unacceptable.
Anon- The new buses were slated for X2 line, but they are on hold until the street is finished. I don't know the capacity of them, but I think it's probably lower than the accordion buses.
I asked a driver why some of them have the shorter buses, and she told me that the drivers are given buses based on when they show up for their shift, not by which line they are working! She said the longer ones leave first.
The X2 is always overcrowded, and MANY people have given up on it all together. If crowding improves, then those of us who gave up will come back and fill it up again!
I'm waiting patiently for the X2 express, similar to the new express buses on 16th street NW. It'll make about half(?) the current stops, but I don't envision saving much time at all. I just envision longer stops with 30-40 people at each one along the route. Might help eliminate a few red light waits though.
