Early Morning Shots Fired @13th & Wylie
I've received multiple emails about the 10-15 shots fired early this morning. All reports I've received say there were no injuries. Police responded.

Inked - who can we contact with MPD to get more details and make sure they are actually following up on this? I have a feeling that since no one was hurt they're probably not devoting a lot of time to it, but the police need to know that these kinds of things aren't going to be tolerated in this area. The fact that thugs don't seem scared to mug people on H (like the guy from Argonaut) or have gun battles a block off H is unacceptable. MPD needs to step up their presence.
I was standing outside my house smoking when I heard the shots. It seemed closer to 30 shots than 15. It was stunning. Police were there in large numbers within 30 seconds. I cannot understand why mainstream media has no mention-nothing on the Post or Times website and no mention on local TV stations.
First of all it's spelled "Wylie" just to clarify. I heard the shots being fired around 12:30 and then heard sirens but they never heard them get to Wylie Street. If this happened in Georgetown you'd better believe that there would be police presence immediately and probably the next night with a parked car keeping watch. I am sick of being second class. I live on Wylie and have noticed more random groups of guys cruising the block. They try to look intimidating. They trash up the neighborhood with their litter, broken bottles, butts etc. The police used to shine a huge spotlight up Wylie Street on random nights. What happened to that. We had a drive-by last June and I have heard gunshots since. Last night was ridiculous. 10-15 shots fired is no joke! We need help NOW!
Thanks for catching that 702, I was on the phone while I was typing.
Police recovered the shell casings. No damage to vehicles and no broken glass. With that many shots fired we got pretty lucky. It's odd. I live down the street from this and was home reading (back of the house) at the time. I didn't hear a thing (but traffic from Florida probably helped block it out).
6:38, I'd prefer to think that this kind of thing wouldn't happen anywhere around here. But I am aware of it happening in the area. H Street is generally safe.
Just as an update, the guy from the Argo is basically recovered, and back on at both of his jobs. But yeah, that kind of thing is scary.
FYI-contact your Councilmember for action...Wylie and H Street never get the police attention presence that it needs now and it didn't 20 years when I grew up there.
Wait--so this all started on Wylie?? The guy I saw with the gun was running down 13th toward Florida and was shooting in the direction of the Yahweh church.
Damn, that's even worse to think that it was a roving gun battle.
The shell casings were found on the east side of 13th St- more toward I ST NE than Wylie St. While the police were there really quickly (I didn't even have time to call 911-go MPD!)I agree with the need for more consistent police presence like we had a few summers ago- which seemed to cut down on the gathering/drug dealing. And it does seem like there is a "no one was hurt, nothing was damaged- just file the report and forget it" response. We were doing pretty well for a while. I know I will start being more vigilant and looking out for my neighbors. Here comes summer....
I live near 14th and D NE. There were cops looking for casings in the alley behind Duncan St from the time it happened until 9 or 10 this morning. This is the other side of H from where you're reporting, we heard 7 shots over here.
what i want to know is why is this stuff never on the news? never on the crime report websites? and is there anything we can do about the house on my street that obviously has shady goings-on? there is a family living there but the sons are up to no good: gun shots (that guy killed on f and 13th came out from the back of their house and around the corner onto f), all kinds of thugs hanging out, cars lingering around at all hours, and a swat team even came by one morning to arrest the 16yr old son. what can we do? and are the police following up and really trying to get these people off the streets? can't the parents be held responsible too? wtf?
Just to add some info on the alley at 14th/15th/Duncan/Tennessee shots this morning--this was sent this morning from MPD's Commander David Kamperin to the MPD-1 crime listserve:
"Suspect was firing at an unknown subject in the alley. He was encountered by an off duty PG officer who drew his service weapon had fired at least one shot. The suspect was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. A weapon was recovered from the suspect and he is being charged-no injuries to the officer."
This happened right behind our house, and at about 1:30am i heard about 10 shots, a 10 second pause, and then two more shots. Scary.
wow, i knew the shots were close, but i had no idea how close until now.
i certainly hope MPD steps up their presence as summer draws closer - i swear the heat makes people crazy. if we want more police, the time to ask is definitely now.

So this is two different events on different days.
