CP: H Street Rowhouses

The City Paper reports on a group of rowhouses the owner wants to demolish.
Greater Greater Washington weighs in on the issue.

Interesting and frustrating case, and one that could set a very dangerous precedent on H. There are a lot of rotting (yet still salvageable) old properties on the street. If developers get the idea that all they need to do is run them down to the ground...

This is a scary side-effect of the vacant property tax hike. Into the law there needs to be added owner responsibility for gross negligence and enforceable maintenance codes.

Any smart owner knows that he/she can probably sell an older property for greater than the tear-down value. But you have to be smart, and not crazy, if you want to rent.

Inked- is the owner crazy? I've heard reports as such, but you don't see insanity like this very often. Please someone buy this or make this guy come to his senses

anon. 7:53,

The owner is crazy...crazy like a fox. If you (like this owner) didn't give a crap about the neighborhood or doing the right thing, you could very easily decide to demolish this place and put in a parking lot. Essentially this decision kills two birds with one stone: 1.) You avoid the higher taxes incurred as a result of you not renting your place out and letting it rot for 20 years; and 2.) you get to collect a boatload of parking money from all the Atlas/HstCC patrons swarming into the area.

Nice way to leech off of everybody elses hard work, no?

How many parking spots can you really cram in there? I think Joe Englert will save the day and put in a bikin car wash.

Anyone know where you can get the feed of the recent liquor license requests? ABRA hasn't been updating.
