Does anyone have any info on "Drew's"-- to be located at 1245 H St?

ANC 6A is protesting their applicaton for a class C license.

I wrote about Drew in this month's H Street Life column. It's a three level restaurant. The top floor is just for private parties, and the second floor can be rented for private parties. The space is quite large. I believe the first floor can hold around 70 patrons. The guy behind it has been in the restaurant business in DC since 1999. He seems like a nice guy.

Reading the the doc I'd say that's pretty standard protest language. The owner just needs to get in touch with the ANC and schedule a time to make a presentation.

Is it a standard practice for ANC 6A members to oppose all new businesses that sell beer/wine/alcohol without contacting the business owner first?

It sounds to me like they have talked to him, but they haven't been able to set a presentation date. My understanding (I don't even live in 6A, so I'm no expert) is that they generally oppose until they can at least open negotiations about a V.A. I think this protest is no big deal, just something both sides need to work through. It needn't cost the owner any money or delay. ANC 6A has a great standard V.A. that you can get off their website. If memory serves me, the Argonaut was the first C licensee to agree to be bound under this agreement (I could be wrong).

I live in ANC 6A, I'm disturbed that the ANC 6A Commissioners would vote to "disapprove" any license for a business without the ANC 6A Commissioners making an effort to contact the owner(s). Did they? ANC 6A Commissioners, if someone is willing to invest in our area, give them the benefit of the doubt as they are working to open their new business. Why don't you get off your "bureaucratic paperwork" and go talk to them about their enterprise. Your elected officials, do more than sitting back and expecting people to come to you.

pro-business,
I am familiar enough with that ANC that I can pretty much guarantee that they did contact the business owner. He probably because he is very busy. ANC6A is a very pro-business ANC. I have no doubt that the issue will be resolved quickly and easily.
