X2 Meetings

WMATA and DDOT are hosting two public meetings about ways to improve service on the X1, X2, and X3 lines.

Clearly the answer for poor bus service along that corridor is to put the trolleys we've already bought on the rails that are currently being installed, and run them. Or is that crazy talk?

In the mean time, they need to implement the express routes that are being planned for 2010 in the next 3 months. Or is that crazy talk too?

I'm not sure what a public meeting this week is going to do to change their already existing plans to fix the problem "later."

They should have those officers milking disability ride the X2 instead of riding desks.

Do the police ever ride the bus? Might see some interesting things, if they did.

My girlfriend had 6 full X2s pass by last week before she could finally squeeze onto one (and she was one of the only people that could get on). It is always a crap shoot whether the ride will be surprisingly efficient or an ordeal, and this is at all times of day, not just rush hour. I feel like we should go to the meeting but agree with Tom A. that they will probably just tell us to wait. What the X2 line needs among other things is an express option, more frequent buses, fewer stops between 14th and 4th NE, and bus drivers that actually force people to move to the back of the bus to make room.

Has an express bus service been proposed that BEGINS at 14th & H? I would be more likely to use public transit if so.

Only a completely useless government bureaucracy would need to hold meetings to know how to improve the X2...

Make it run more frequently, and on a regular schedule, those two things alone would improve service greatly.

The third would be: STOP LYING about the first two. Anyone who rides the X2 knows it's very common to wait 30 minutes for a bus that supposedly runs every 9 minutes... WMATA is a joke.

ummm... handiwipes and lysol as you board the bus? maybe a mask? I've been spit on, called a "F@@in Cop" and once, i heard a lady say "How the f@@k they let that boy on this bus?" yes. i'm white. and I wear a suit to work.

Dude, please don't start with the racial stuff man....I'm black, ride the bus, and wear a suit to work....no big deal. Both you and I, black and white, has chosen to live in a transitional neighborhood. Unfortunately we both have to deal with various types of people that may not share the same values, income and norms as us. Everything is not about your color man. I lived in West Virginia for 3 years and would never assume that most of the lower class white people's views of me were hatred. Their actions were the same and in some cases worse than those on the X2! Despite that, most of them were great people. Take some time to chat with your neighbors man. You'd be pleasantly surprised to learn that you have more in common than not!

I've definitely had a few overtly racist comments made to my face on the X2 but that has been a handful of times (over 8 years) and almost every time I've had an at least one Black rider speak up and say that that crap wasn't right.

Don't hate on the X2 riders too much. Most of them are decent people who just want to go to work or school. But yeah, sometimes there is that one creep. After some homeless dude went on a horrible rant (this was back in 2001 when I was often the only [or one of two] white face on the bus) the bus driver actually apologized the next time I got on the bus and assured me that that man was not on this bus. I was impressed (and shocked) that the bus driver even remembered me. I will say that I think most riders (whether they speak up or not) abhor such behavior and when the comments are overtly racial they are as embarrassed as a white person would be if another white person threw out a racist slur against a Black person in a mostly white crowd (not that it's ever ok to do that, but I think the feeling is worse in a crowd where the abused is the minority because the majority can seem complicit in the act).
