Day of the Dead on H Street

Halloween is my all time favorite holiday, and I've often said we need to celebrate it on H Street. My upcoming column in the Hillrag mentions a few events, but I have also since received the following email from one of the organizers of the H Street Festival:

Lots of rock musicians died before their time so we'll honor them. Michael Jackson of course. Is Elvis dead or not?
Traditionally, people paid tribute to the departed with great food and drink, and that's something that we do well on H. The restaurants will offer special menus, many of them Mexican or New Orleans, a city that celebrates the Day of All Saints each year.
As always, the food will range from bar snacks to elegant repasts from H Street's good cooks! Autumn's new beers are in, ready to be enjoyed.

We're starting early in the week so that people will have an opportunity to leave mementos at the shrines to the famous departed that inspire H Street's food, music and commerce. They'll dot nooks and crannies along the street as temporary altars.

Dia de los Muertos and the Feast of All Saints, or some variation of festivals honoring ancestors, are celebrated across the world and in virtually every culture. Come enjoy the excitement and fun of H Street while taking your hum-drum Halloween to a new level of enjoyment. Make sure to wear a costume so you'll blend in with the other revelers.
We're waiting for you - and so are the ghosts of the past.
