H Street Festival 2009

IMG_3773
I know you all have already marked your calendars for the festival on the 19th, but this is just a reminder for those who may have forgotten. It runs from 12-6pm and promises to be bigger and better than any of the previous years.

This looks like it will be the best festival ever! Live music on two stages organized by the Rock and Roll Hotel folks, stuff for kids in the 1200 block, it look like most of the H street businesses will have a presence this year. The Sticky Rice patio was so popular last year that it appears that several more places are going to try it this year. Joy of Motion groups are usually out in the street, maybe the Atlas will have a bigger presence, the very popular kids fashion shows.. should be some fun for everyone. It's good to see the festival thrive.

The Atlas will have an Open House that day with open rehearsals, performances and a Stepping Workshop with Step Afika! A complete schedule will be posted soon...

The Atlas needs to get people off of the street and into the place. People will be shocked at how beautiful the space is, and they have some really great shows there.

We'll have live music (inside) during the festival also. Three to four groups all day long. And our bar will be open as well.

For some cool insight into the H street NE Festival go to www.hstreet.org and "click for details".

Loads of info on the 2009 H Street Festival's new website that is being updated constantly as more new fun participants are being added almost daily! Will we run out of room?

Check out the Art Cars that will share space on the Urban Arts (1300) block with the Atlas Theater, the all-day music line-up arranged by the Rock and Roll Hotel, the outdoor patio at the H St Country Club. Baby Loves Disco will be there for the youngest Festival lovers.

Margaret, if someone just read your flyer would they automatically know that this event will take place in NE?

anon 7:26. yes. It's similar to a U Street festival that would be assumed to be in NW.

Anonymous said...

Disagree. HstNW is much more of a good bet that this is where the festival would be. Verizon Center, Chinatown, of course the Hst festival would be there.

Ust? Only the pompousness of people who live in NW assumes only good things happen in NW DC.

If you don't let people know where the festival is....they won't come.

Anon 7:26,
I would assume that the Northeast thing would be pretty clear because the poster saws "H ST NE" in REALLY BIG letters. If you read that and still head downtown I don't know how to help you.

Inked, the banners light pole on HstNE say "NE". I am talking about Margaret's flyer that she posedt the link to.

You too are a big offender of the NE thing. Your articles in "Hill Rag" often say Hst but rarely say HstNE.

Why promote a place and not tell people where it is?

Anon 2:01, I think that's just the schedule (I believe it appear on the rear of the flyer).

Actually, my articles in the Hill Rag always say NE. I just don't feel the need to follow each instance of H Street with NE. The Hill Rag is all about Capitol Hill, which would not include Chinatown. The column H Street Life is all about the H Street Corridor. It's obvious that I'm talking about NE, and I'd bet money that you can't find a single example in the article where I list a business address and don't include the NE (I'm pretty careful about that).

On Frozen Tropics the stuff I write generally doesn't say NE, and that is intentional. It's playing with the idea of NW as default. If people want to talk about H Street in NW let them use other names like Chinatown or Metro Center. If you say U Street, or 14th Street people know where you mean. I think the same thing is happening with H Street.

The H Street Festival is produced by H Street Main Street - not H Street NE Main Street.
The H Street County Club? Is that in Chinatown? By Starbucks and Bed Bath and Beyond?
Can you imagine Little Miss Whiskey's near the US Chamber of Commerce at 1615 H St NW?

It's called "branding," and H Street no longer has to explain.
The last few people I spoke with building new restaurants or looking at property for them, were from Dupont Circle, Baltimore, that great restaurant district in Charlottesville, and they all wanted to be part of "H Street." Period. NO quadrant.
There were more than 25 new businesses that opened last year on H Street. What recession?
There's no more 'splainin' to do.
H Street has become a brand, just like Yes, we can!

Ok. Maybe I buy into "H street" is the brand. But why not tell people that the address for the "cars" will be the 1300 block of HstNE?

The website is a graphic product. It is designed to give the most info with the least amount of lettering.
It's not an iCellphone.

Once someone is navigating around the H Street Festival website, they know where the Festival is. Would the Festival organizers put the cars in the 1300 block of Wisconsin Avenue?

I can't wait to go to the HstNW festival. NorthWest is the best. NorthEast has the least.

What time does the H NW festival start?
