WP: 2 Apprehended in Burglary on Florida Ave
The Post reports, and I can personally confirm, that two males were taken into custody during the burglary of a rowhouse in the 1200 block of Florida yesterday. Daniel Howland (18, and a Trinidad resident), and a 15 year old male (not a resident of Trinidad) were spotted by officers (who were surveying the neighborhood due to recent robberries) entering a home. The two attempted to escape with a laptop (which they then dropped), but were quickly apprehended. The burglary occurred just before 11:30 am. According to the Post, the two are suspects in as many as 13 recent burglaries in the neighborhood. Great work on the part of MPD, and also amazing timing. What are the chances of police actually happening upon a burglary in progress?

freakin' awesome. i'd been watching the burglaries circling my block for the last week, and i was wondering if these guys were zoning in on us. glad that they got stopped cold.
I am very happy to hear this- our place got broken into on Monday in broad day light sometime between 12pm and 4:30pm. The people/person stole our laptops and a bunch of other stuff- they got some finger prints- So maybe they are linked. Either way glad to see these people off the streets.
Knowing how DC treats juvenile criminals in this city, I'd put the chances that the 15-year-old is already back on the street at around 95 percent.
Does anyone know Mr. Daniel Howland's address. I would like to know where he lives in order to track where criminals live. Exact address please.
Thanks
Maybe they have my patio furniture! And grill! And lawnmower! And weed eater! And garden tools! And trowel I used to pick up my dog's sh*t!
Seriously, good work MPD. The ultimate outcome aside, the fact that there were plain clothes officers out there looking for this type of crime in the area is good news to me.
So, how are these people breaking in? Lots of houses have bars and gates over doors and windows. Am I naive in thinking these are impenetrable? Are they picking locks?
My neigbor had a break in a few years ago. They used a cordless power drill to drill holes through the deadbolt and then kicked in the door. Bars help, but neighbors on the lookout work!
If you ever see anyone walking down the street with a power drill call the cops.
Blue dog.
A lot of times they get in through unlocked doors and windows too (including on the second floor). I know a bunch of Gallaudet students had their houses burglarized last year because of that.
if you have a sunroof on your roof, and a tree nearby, they've been known to climb the tree and kick in the sunroof. that used to happen a lot back in the day in dupont circle when it was a craphole.
We had our house burglarized just off of H street during inauguration weekend! From what it seems, the details surrounding this case are surprisingly similar! We are going to see if this can be linked to our case!
seriously people. if you're that scared, go to ebay or somesuch, and buy one of those fake dog barking machines that respond to vibrations on your door. the minute they touch it, it sounds like a pitbull....
gets 'em every time.
it's kinda like a sport! if you set up a video camera on your roof to watch the perps reaction, you can post it on youtube and be an internet meme!
make the most of it, it that's all you have!
Is there a way to track what happens to these two after they were arrested? When their court dates are? What happens to the 15 year old?
