Given that at least 3 people at the Hunter funeral were carrying guns in our neighborhood (and those are just the people who shot guns or were killed by them) I sure hope the MPD has a presence outside of the Rawlings funeral. Actually, shouldn't that sort of be standard practice when the decedent was killed by street violence? I'm kind of thinking MPD fell down on the job on this one, though they've apparently done a good job with the arrest.

I realize many funeral attendees in these situations don't love the police, but that's really just too bad. If someone wants to mouth off to the cops, well, frisk them and take any guns. If they don't, then all will be peaceful.

Speaking of which, do we know where the Rawlings funeral will be? Perhaps we could all chip in and have it in NW.

I live near this funeral home and the cops frequently are there providing police protection for funerals, which says a lot about the type of clientele this home gets. sad you cant even be safe at a funeral.

From the MPD 1D listserve when asked what to expect as the shooter is a minor.

"the Homicide Branch did an outstanding job developing leads and closing it so quickly. Although this individual is a juvenile, he was charge under Title 16 and will be tried as an adult.

Anyone who feels so inclined is invited to send an impact letter to the US Attorney’s Office. You may start by contacting our Community Prosecutor’s Office carolyn.crank@... to discuss this option.
