Urban Turf Checks Out the Oasis

Local real estate blog Urban Turf takes a look at the Capitol Hill Oasis (do a search to find the archive postings on this one).

U.G.L.Y you dont have an albi for this property.What a waste of space.Perhaps,with proper land scaping this will make this building look a little softer. We will see...
What's truly troubling is the fact that the brick porches are already beginning to settle and list pretty severely in all directions. Noticed that on a walk by a few weeks ago.
Those things have been lingering in the neighborhood for the last three years at this point. They are uglier than they really need to be. They have almost no architectural interest but rather look like brick boxes.
It's kind of ironic that pre-fab is supposed to reduce construction time, yet these monstrosities have been under construction for about 2 years now which is way longer than it would take to build from scratch.
Its also strange that the Oasis website does not list pricing and the properties are not listed on MRIS. When are they planning to start marketing? How much are they selling for? Seems like basic information that should be available on the website...
How are earth is the developer going to make money on this project? Who is the target buyer for these oversized boxes? Five bedrooms? Elevator? I just don't get it.
Is that bathroom ceramic tile on the cornice at the top?!?
One of the workers on the project told me that the foundation is shaky. They would put up tile one day and come back the next and it would be cracked because the house settled. That and the fire and standing water etc. I fear the place is haunted.
It hardly stands up to the negative comments (that don't surprise me at all...), but it was at least a positive sign that they started working over there again recently (maybe the former owners went bankrupt and sold cheap and now someone's finishing the job??) and that they appear to have used pervious pavers out back for what I'm guessing are the parking spots?
I wonder if Jimmy's tires ever successfully sued them for their contractors setting the fire that destroyed their business...
the Urban Turf post is just comically advertorial, and sadly doesn't address the rocky history of this development. while i hope they sell these homes soon, there are so many flaws in the design, construction, layout and decor of this place. and i'm pretty sure there were homeless people living on the property as i frequently saw people milling around inside the fence late at night.
and if i remember correctly, weren't the original developers pricing these at around $1 million? i thought that was a stretch for this neighborhood 3 years ago and can't imagine these selling for anywhere near that in today's housing market/economy. it will be interesting to see what the actual asking price will be.
Interesting... I drove by this site this week and the sign outside indicates that the buildings will be used for commercial rather than residential purposes. I wonder which it will be...
I noticed the "commercial" designation on the signs too, but they said commercially-zoned condominiums and townhomes, or something like that. I don't really know how the zoning works, but they're definitely going to be residences.
