Creatura @Sova

Sova has new art hanging on the walls upstairs, and the opening for the new show is tomorrow night. The art, created by Katie Schuler, is pretty cool. There will also be music, so stop by and check it out.

End Time:
Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 12:00am
Location:
SOVA 1359 H Street

From the Facebook announcement:

A few things you should know about this event:

1) Half of this collection is based on bioluminescent deep sea creatures so it glows in the dark as well as being visible in light.

2) A flashlight is advisable to charge the glowing highlights.

3) Matthew Hemerlein will be playing two sets with percussion guru Jeff Franca and each set will be totally improvised.

4) The work will be priced at peer-friendly prices and I'd love to set these creatures free.

5) This is a free event and I really hope you can make it!

Warmly,

Matt and Katie

My girlfriend and I went to this show last night. It was Awesome!! Really cool art, cool music, and a cool scene. I wish there were more events like this on H St. Kinda reminded me of my days in Oakland.

I had stopped to check it out. Found the art mediocre, gimmicky and very cliched. The crowd very hipster. And hipsters are not known for being friendly.

And apparently some us aren't known for being sensitive, or nice.

I had other plan during the opening, but I liked the pieces I saw hanging on the wall.

Some people go to movies, they either like the movie or don't. Sometimes we give 4 star rating to a movie on Netflix or sometimes 1 star. Does that make me insensitive to the director or the screenwriter? Of course not. Just because the artist is "well connected" doesn't mean I have to like the art.
