Capital City Diner Moves Closer to Opening

They've now got the C of O. That means they now just need:
1. a contract with a garbage collector;
2. a health inspection;
3. a license.

3) “what ….you need Building permits in order to conduct construction? “
4) “what the hell !!!! you need drawings to get a permit”
5) “omg you need to pay money for Utility?”
6) “wtf DC has licenses for businesses”
7) “FYI I was just robbed next to my diner that will soon be open”
8) “Washington Gas is plotting against us”

Thanks, these guys sink their savings and their sweat and tears into improving the neighborhood and you mock them.
Maybe you could start a consultancy helping small businesses get started in DC and help people instead of mocking them?
The time that your breathtaking knowledge saves entrepreneurs should be an airtight business case...they can be up and running so much quicker.
And there'll be one less negative comment in this blog! It's a win-win-win!

I am headed to the gym to shed a few pounds just so I can put them back on with copious amounts of omelets and hashbrowns.

Hell yeah. And as a bartender on H Street, you can BET that if they're open late-night, I will BE there, with bells on, after I close down the bar.

Oh, and Anonymous 8:41 - have you ever started up a restaurant? I'm guessing not. If no, hush your mouth. You're making yourself look silly.

Can't wait for them to open. I'm there. The Anon 8:41 pm snarky know it all commenter is green with envy that they are actually getting this done. This place is going to be good. I hope they plan some carryout for the Arboretum

Anon 8:41 has probably never opened a small business in DC or dealt with DCRA, otherwise known as the Department of Complete Run Around.

Among the many problems that Capital City Diner faced was DCRA losing their permits, approving things that they later decided weren't right, delays from DCRA for routine approvals that sat on somebody's desk for weeks, and telling them they didn't need licenses for stuff and then changing their minds.
They were charged close to $10K for a utility company to run a line 2 feet, while the same company usually does this for free for big developers.

DC Government makes life hell for small business, while giving kid-glove service and tax breaks to the big guys.
Guess why we have more and more faceless chain businesses in DC and fewer locally-owned ones.

anon 8:41 -- if you're not willing to put your name on a post like that, you're a gutless coward. Another argument for Inked to make people register to post. Can't happen soon enough.

You forgot the next step, anonymous:

11) Best old school diner in DC is open and kicking arse! (at least that's what we're all rooting for)

some of the comments here seem to be from people who have eaten at the dinner

did it have a soft opening that i missed or something?

I don't know what people are complaining about. The eleven months that the pug sat idle were very helpful to my psyche. The district gov't was a pillar of efficiency, and a font of useful knowlege. I wish the diner every success. If we let the dc gov't stop small businesses, i'll have to go get a real job.

It's a shame that the first comment about a positive story about the diner is filled with hate and simply untrue. I'm not sure if this was a failed attempt at humor - it doesn't seem to be. Being friends with Matt and Patrick, I have heard a lot about their struggles, and none of the 10 'recaps' are remotely true. To top it off, Anon 8:41's use of quotation marks, leads one to believe these are direct quotes from twitter.com/capcitydiner. They are not. I'm not going to waste my time, thinking up excuses why anyone would write such a crappy comment, but Anon8:41 owes the Cap City Diner guys an apology.

Come on now. the first post was funny! I mean most of the thinks listed are comonsence. of course you need building permits, plans to get permits, somthing to put the damn thing on.

I do agree that the DC goverment is bass ackwards and a pain, but dont you think you should do alittle research before you drop your life savings into somthing like this, its a huge gamble and IF you are broke before it opens you have a hard road ahead of you.

I wish them the best of luck! the more buisnesses the better for this area!
