Liberty Tree Open?

I'm receiving various reports that Liberty Tree (1016 H Street) is now open.

++++++++++++++++++++
UPDATE
++++++++++++++++++++

Ok, they are NOT yet open to the public. Those people you see inside? Friends and family soft opening. So give them the week to get into the rhythm of it. Go check it out next week...when they actually open.

  1. Yep- they had their soft opening last night. It was delish. Try the stuffed peppadews. Amazing.

  2. That is not true. Just because there are people inside eating does not mean they are open. They are doing a soft opening for friends and family by reservation this week and have been able to accomodate a few walk ins. They are trying to get up to speed and sort out all kinks before opening to the public and folks should try to respect that for a few more days.

  3. It strikes me that the most urgent issue ever debated here is whether a restaurant is "open" or merely doing a "soft" opening.

    Just saying.

  4. I actually wouldn't recommend going to their website -- it's loading bad stuff in the background and may have been hacked.

  5. Can't wait to try that Lorem Ipsum from their website's menu.

After you try the Lorem Ipsum, make sure to contact Lorem Ipsum Dolor to let them know what a fantastic job they are doing. Personally, I can't tell whether I want to try Lorem Ipsum 1 or Lorem Ipsum 4.

  7. I'm with ya Charles. Really the most urgent issue is: when are all these collective restaurants and businesses going to transform H Street into another U street and raise our property values (for folks on the north side of H Street)?!

    Just sayin...

    ReplyDelete
  8. looking forward to trying this place when they open.

charles, why do you feel the need to complain about this blog? i find it to be a great resource regardless of the subject matter. if you want to whine about it, do so with 3 year olds, they may be able to relate to you better. the rest of us should feel free to discuss whether or not a place has opened.

'just me': enjoy your low property taxes while you can, otherwise go ahead and sell or rent your house now since you're more concerned about its value than the neighborhood itself.

i've been here for over 7 years and the transformation of H st is slow but it IS happening. thanks to the business owners who are here and those still to come.

  9. Very excited to have a new restaurant, especially one bringing the revitalization over towards 10th Street!

That being said, I believe their site has indeed been hacked - attempted to install (excuse my lack of tech knowledge) a trojan horse through a javascript issue.

I cannot comment on whether this guy Lorem Ipsum is some sort of hacker... Sounds shady though.

  10. Maybe Just Me was kidding, but the changes north of H-street are all around! Just in the last year, 5 or 6 derelict properties within two blocks of me, including the very last with boards and ruined facades, have been restored.

This is how it happens. We're talking about millions upon millions of dollars of investment spread out among all these different owners/investors -- it doesn't happen overnight. I've heard somewhere that the Near Northeast area has the highest number of work permits being pulled of any part of the city right now -- I can't imagine a better indicator of progress.

Those who believed they'd be living in the next Kalorama a year or two after they bought at the height of the market frenzy were deluded. I've lived in and seen the transformation of U-street, Adam's Morgan/Colombia Heights, and this feels like the fastest and most comprehensive transformation yet (and the most interesting). That it continues to happen during the "great recession" is amazing.

  11. Just here to second or third the soft opening comments. We popped in last night and although a bit frazzled by a walk-in, the hostess was super sweet and kind enough to seat us because it was supposed to be just friends and family.

Regardless, the service was great and so was the food. Great prices and super friendly owners. Thanks for opening in the neighborhood guys. We will be making this our regular hangout along side Toyland (Yay west end of H st.!)

And please don't judge them on their site especially since they are not actually open yet.

Now, any word on Pies?!!? or what the Joe's sign is across from Sova?

  12. Lorem Ipsum is industry-standard place-holder copy. Its use is only an indication that the site is not ready to be public and should not have been launched, and nothing to do with being hacked.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Kyle,

the Joe's sign is for a bar-b-que place called Joe's Coal and Ice. It's a ways off.

  14. The "lorem ipsum" comments have nothing to do with the fact that this site is hosting malware:

    http://safebrowsing.clients.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?client=Firefox&hl=en-US&site=http://esoftech.org/libertytree/

I'd of course guess it's not intentional, and they (or their host) was a victim of an attack.

  15. I love getting called out by anonymous sissies.

  16. Obviously, the lorem ipsum comments were jokes, folks.

On a serious note, does anyone have their phone number? I'm sure they'd want to know that their website is causing problems, especially on their first week! I cannot imagine it's something they'd have time to check on themselves right now with everything else going on. A quick voicemail before the dinner rush would likely be appreciated.

Can't get the number off the website due to the virus!!!

  17. Does anyone know if their Lorem Impsum is prepared on a segregated grill? I'm suffer from latin intolerance and wouldn't want my meal contaminated by any stray particles of Cogito Ergo Sum.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hi, Thanks for the concern. I have talked to them and they are now aware and will take care of the website issues. That being said, please do come join us for dinner next week!

They're waiting on new lighting to be delivered, until it's installed you'll have to settle for dim sum.

  21. The Liberty Tree website does NOT contain malicious code. It leverages code hosted on a site that has had a healthy history of malware issues, but none of them have impacted the Liberty Tree website. Any suggestion otherwise is fearmongering and nothing more...

    ReplyDelete
  22. not on parker: I think you miss the point. If a very large fraction of the folks who visit the site get warnings from either their AV software or their browser (Firefox warns you to stay away from it automatically, because Firefox checks with Google's catalogue of known malware hosts, and it's on the list), then it's an issue the Liberty Tree folks have to deal with ASAP, regardless of whether or not their site is actually spreading any malware. You don't want potential customers being warned "DANGER WILL ROBINSON" every time they visit the website.

  23. I never had salmon or asparagus before.

  24. We were able to sneak in last night too. The food was half off during the soft opening, so please keep that in mind because next time you go it will be full price. We liked everything (we got 3 small plates, the clam chowder, the rigatoni and a pizza) except the pizza. The sauce was uneventful and had very little flavor. Maybe a boring batch. Otherwise everything was delicious!

  25. Hey guys,
First I want to apologize if anyone has gotten any bad content from the website, in our rush to provide some info to everyone that has been asking we put the site live before it was done having no idea how many people were keeping an eye on us. Keep the lorem ipsum comments coming they are cracking me up and we will be open for regular dinner service on Monday the 8th. Looking forward to seeing you all. Scott Hamilton

  26. Avoiding some random Javascript running off of a website known for malware is fearmongering? Give me a break. No legitimate site should use such a script. The script tag in question (loading something from vlaconsulting.com) on the Liberty Tree page looks suspect, anyway; the script it loads is blank, and also doesn't really turn up on any legitimate sites on a Google query but does on extremely suspect sites. Do a Google search for 'vlaconsulting.com bitwiseent' and see what they deal with.

I won't offer any theories as to why it's on the LT website, but the point is the Firefox warning is not for naught. Suffice it to say, if it's there intentionally, LT can build a website without "leveraging" these people's stuff.

  27. If they keep Lorem Ipsum on their website, does that make it Latin cuisine?

Scott: as a transplanted Bostonian myself, your menu looks awesome. Will you have the trasitional New England split-top buns for the lobster rolls?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Jamie-of course, buttered and griddled and during the summer we are going to work a clam boil into the mix as well

gawd damned you, scott! you just made me salivate all over my keyboard... now my "G" key doesn't work anymore.

will you please hurry up and open already?!?!?!

  30. INKED -- Please please please take down this link!!! I opened their website and it absolutely resulted in 5 attempts to hack my computer! Luckily my anti-virus software caught it, but your other readers may not be so lucky.

  31. sorry, this comment does not relate to what you all are talking about in this entry, but you should post something about gay marriage being legal in dc! it is a great milestone!

    ReplyDelete
  32. The link is a little old but I assure it isn't anything bad, if you want to see an updated version of the site go to www.libertytreedc.com the problem people are having is that the link takes you to the test version of the site and not the actual live version. Again my apologies

    ReplyDelete
  33. The link now does go to the live version. The old version wasn't actually dangerous, it just had some off code that was setting off the security software. Try the new version.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Scott,

Great to hear about the split-top buns--too many places think a side-split bun is acceptable. The buttered/griddled split-top is almost as improtant as the lobster itself.

Any chance of you adding fried clams to the appetizers menu?

  35. OMG!!! if you call Dangerously Delicious Pies the message says they open on the March 12th!!!!! SO excited!!!

  37. I think we are going to be adding whole bellied fried clams during the summer

    ReplyDelete
  38. Whole bellied fried clams is one of the very few fried foods worth every calorie.

We went to Liberty Tree tonight...fantastic. I had the lobster roll, while my wife had the burger. Good food, great service, reasonable price, and nice atmosphere. I'm glad we got in before the hard opening, because this place will get mobbed. I also heard they're opening a patio as well. Awesome.

  39. We went last night and each had a salad (house arugala) two different pizzas and the crisp for desert..everything was great and the service terrific. Will be back soon

Guys, please be polite. Remember that these people are your neighbors. I ask also that anonymous users leave some kind of tag [e.g. big green cat] for the sake of being able to follow a thread. Be respectful and have fun.
