New Retail: The C.A.T. Walk Boutique
A reader sent in this photo of a new boutique that takes over the space formerly occupied by Rags 2 Riches. If you've been by send in a report. This is on the north side of the 1400 block of H Street.
have any of our FT ladies taken a look around in this store? what's it look like on the inside? hope some of you can visit it...we need more retail....
Anon 1:37 just doesn't really have much of a sense of humor. So while Anon 11:26 is working on getting a life, I hope Anon 1:37, whoever he/she is, will work on getting a sense of humor.
a small store like that would be better off, probably more profitable even, by selling the clothes online and/or on ebay.
How much foot traffic does H ST even get during normal business hours 8-5? These days it just makes more sense to sell that stuff online. You could argue that they probably do both, in that case they will probably end up bleeding money that way.
Check out Liberty Tree, our newest restaurant, as reported on Prince of Petworth: http://www.princeofpetworth.com/2010/03/a-peek-inside-h-street-nes-liberty-tree/
Removing the security bars would make this storefront more enticing. One could use a roll up security grill on the interior or use vandal resistant window film instead. 3M makes a product just for this purpose.
It's amazing how you all get soo excited about a white establishment opening in the neighborhood but bash minority owned businesss...ie..the little dirty trailer on the used car lot that's supposed to be the best diner in the world! Imagine what you would say if someone of color owned that! You would think we all would be supportive of businesses opening as opposed to abandoned buildings..you may find it funny, but it really is sad...
The anonymous race-baiter at 10:50 wonder what would happen "if someone of color owned that...little dirty trailer on the used car lot that's supposed to be the best diner in the world!" Well, we'd probably go there, just as we do to Horace & Dickie's, Sullivan's, Popeye's, Kenny's, Sidamo, Taste of Jamaica, Souk, and a bunch of other places. Your point? The diner isn't dirty. It hires people from the neighborhood. It fills a market niche - for which there was a real demand. And people from Trinidad are as welcome there as the white people Anon 10:50 sneers at.
I don't believe anyone mentioned the race of the owner of The C.A.T. Walker Boutique. Could Anon. 10:50 be making his/her own racist assumption about the race of this owner? Seems you tried to bait and got caught in your own hook.
“Englert and Nicklas presented the merger to the ANC6a ABL committee on Tuesday night. They have to tear out a second floor wall between [Red & Black and Palace of Wonders] and even out the floor levels to make one big performance space with a good stage. They can get national level bands with the additional space. The burlesque-type acts will still be featured several nights a week. They’ll add a real kitchen with American food, featuring gourmet burgers. Food probably by Folkman and Cashion.

actually most of us find it sad that you think that. and nearly all of us just want to go to a place that sells or serves the things we want. crazy, huh? we don't give a damn about the skin color of the proprietor. so, woman's clothing store? thats great for them, but i'll pass.
but imagine how packed it would be if horace and dickies expanded and served beer ( maybe some natty bo?)and had seating? why? fulfilling a demand.
maybe you could share with us some establishments you think are more deserving of praise than they have received?
The C.A.T. Walk Boutigue is really nice. They have a bunch of really nice high end consignment as well as new pieces. Great shoes accesories. Definitely a gem for the area if you are looking for a nice suit for work, dinner with the ladies or a night on the town. I am hooked on this place and the owner is really nice and helpful. Stop pass...that's what I did after reading all of the post.
Guys, please be polite. Remember that these people are your neighbors. I ask also that anonymous users leave some kind of tag [e.g. big green cat] for the sake of being able to follow a thread. Be respectful and have fun.
Looks inviting. Why can't we see into the store?
ReplyDeleteNow all we need is a Dog House boutique and we are all set.
ReplyDeleteAnon 9:06, it's a display window.

I actually thought Anon 11:15's post was pretty funny.
ReplyDeleteSorry I meant Anon 11:26
ReplyDeleteThe dress in the window looks kinda cute. I hope the rest of their merchandise is!

Well - it's right by a BUSY bus stop = mega foot traffic. Let's give it a chance! C'mon people, pretend it has beer and stop by for a look.
ReplyDeleteIf it happens to be upscale resale, I'm there! Kinda a queen thrifter over here.
ReplyDeleteit's right next to a bus stop! pretend it sells singles and give it a shop!
ReplyDeleteYou won't catch me there. Leaving that place gives new meaning to the C.A.T. walk of shame.
ReplyDeleteMuch succes and welcom to the neighborhood.

ReplyDeleteSurprised not to see this info on FT.
Marin,
ReplyDeleteYou must have missed it. I talked about Liberty Tree. I just haven't eaten there yet. But others have and they left reviews.

ReplyDeleteSheesh, I guess I got a little behind in my reading and made assumptions in my excitement for this new establishment. Thanks, inked :)

ReplyDeleteWow, anon 10:50... that is one crazy racist comment. Inked, please delete that ignorant, wrong, and disgusting post.

Anon 10:50 has also missed how we've been going on and on about the Ethiopic opening.

ReplyDeleteI'm a model, you know what I mean? And I do my litte turn on the CAT walk.
ReplyDeleteI'm too sexy for this store.
I'm going bait racing.

"Anon 10:50 has also missed how we've been going on and on about the Ethiopic opening."
ReplyDeleteAccording to some sad individuals in DC Ethiopians are the wrong kind of black.
So they don't count.
Just ask any of the Ethiopian places up on 9th St NW. They had tons of trouble from many black members of Shiloh Baptist Church and others.
Yet those same church members had no problem with the super-crappy corner liquor stores that were actually dragging the neighborhood down.
From the PoP link:

Holy crap. That's great news.
Tom A.--indeed! HA! Thank you for lightening the mood :)
