Announcement:
The Family Health and Birth Center’s Breastfeeding Peer Counselor program provides breastfeeding support, education, and counseling to a population that has some of the nation’s lowest breastfeeding rates. The program has dramatically increased breastfeeding rates at FHBC through one-on-one peer counseling, group education, and collaboration with clinicians. While just 65% of African American women initiate breastfeeding in the US as a whole, 82% of African American FHBC clients breastfeed their babies. This program is in jeapordy due to lack of funds; please read on to find out how you can help!
What we are doing: We will be hosting an live and silent auction along with live performances by musical groups and dance troupes on Sunday May 16th 2pm-5pm at The Mindfulness Center 4963 Elm Street, Ste 101 in Bethesda, MD to raise money for the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program at the Family Health and Birth Center.
What the auction proceeds will help pay for: Free lactation (breastfeeding) support to mothers and children that use the center, including group classes, individual consults, home and hospital visits, and 24-hour phone help. All services are provided free of charge to FHBC clients.

I believe in empowering our people by giving them the right kind of education and information for example the importance of breastfeeding in raising a baby.
