Via Twitter HStreetDC reports that one of the owners of the Star and the Shamrock was at DCRA picking up the C of O for the new tavern.

That 1889 law must not have made the rounds in my neighborhood, where we have plenty of overhead wires in the alleys.

Verizon and Comcast do have overhead alley wires around here.

Overhead wires clearly already exist on H Street.

Overhead wires are only disallowed on streets. They're okay in alleys, on top of the railroad tracks, etc.

As for the H Street wires, those are temporary during construction, not permanent wires.

That said, I have absolutely no problem with our upcoming streetcar wires. H Street is going to look fantastic when this is all done. Anyone who remembers Barracks Row before they did similar work there may remember how awful that neighborhood looked ten years ago.

I know about Irish beer and whiskey...what about the new place will be Jewish in nature? Asking in all seriousness.

@ Rob: The deli?

I'm skeptical of the deli/tavern. I dont like beer with my sandwiches. Maybe if it is a hot sandwich it might work better.

I am excited for Irishness and Jewish deliness. But in the same place? I guess I'll wait and see

Havanagila, bitches

Geez. One of the owners is Jewish, the other is Irish. They're melding the traditions. Jewish deli food with Irish music, beer, and whiskey.
The food is cooked fresh on site using many of Jason's Bubby's recipes - like her great fried Matzoh balls and terrific corned beef. But hey! Don't the Irish eat corned beef too?
Real food. Real music. Real fun. And great flat screen TVs for soccer.
I was there today and this will be a terrific addition to the neighborhood. They got their CO today, and they're expecting the Dept of Health inspector on Wednesday.
Soft openings soon. Then the real thing by the end of the month if all goes well.

re: Temporary wires

These certainly don't look temporary, not unless "temporary" means "the last decade":

I can't wait to try the knish & chips.

Yep, they're temporary, and have certainly not been there for a decade. Take a closer look when you're on H... they're just there to provide temporary power while the road is torn up and new streetlight feeders are installed.

Cable wires are messy and multiple, and electrical feeders to buildings are much larger in diameter, have transformers, etc. Look at Wisconsin Ave in Tenleytown, Brentwood Parkway, etc. if you want to see some *real* electrical wires in the streets!

Hmmmm... And I was worried that it would be an Irish Delli and Jewish beer.

relax margaret. nobody says it sucks. its just eyebrow raising. and just because the two owners are one of each doesnt mean that merging the two is logical and harmonious.

like i said, i'll wait and see. in the worst case, i'm planning on jewishing it up during the day and irishing it up at night.

as long as i can get guinness by itself, it will be cool. if it only comes mixed with maniciewicz (sp?) then we have a problem. (psst that was a joke)
