Thinking Outside the Box...er...Quadrant

I was reading the District Curmudgeon when saw a reference to a guest post on the blog Congress Heights on the Rise. The post deals with that annoying habit people have of erroneously lumping all of southeast together (often under the Anacostia moniker). Not so long ago most people I met did a similar thing with NE DC. When I first came to the District I was told by more than one person that I'd be crazy to move outside of NW because I'd probably get shot. I'm guessing that those people had never left NW. It isn't just people making ignorant comments either. The Curmudgeon post author actually found inspiration in a recent Washington Post article.

another example of this seems like whenever anything bad happens in NE now, it's somehow tied to trinidad, even if it isn't in the neighborhood. the ability of people to simplify things to the point of absurdity blows my mind.
