Gunfire erupted at 4:30pm yesterday in a normally quiet corner of Trinidad. Three people were shot in the 1100 block of Morse. One was found at the scene, and the other two were separately found near North Capitol where they were driving themselves to the hospital. Few other details are available.
The Post reports.

Do we know anything about the breakin and attempted assault/rape that supposedly happened on the 1100 Block of 6th St over the weekend?
There were a few handwritten posters hanging around the neighborhood, informing us that it happened, but no details, description of the suspect, etc...
Can't wait for this summer....
Over/under for kill count of 20 May-September.
I'm going to say over.
In the 1200 block of Morse There were a couple hoodlums on a stolen motor scooter that tried to play chicken with me as I was using the cross walk. So close I could have elbowed them. I called 911. Momements later I saw a police car and followed it to the convenience store around the corner to find the two officers buying drinks. They said they were looking for the suspects...... in the store? Why bother calling the police if they aren't going to take action. We have a police presence but at times it seems thats all we're getting. Presence but no action.

How do you know the scooter was stolen?
Just curious.

1D or 5D cops? My guess is 5D! Did you get names or a car number?
Normally quiet corner? That's a stretch. Young hoodlums hang out on this corner quite a bit. Normally non-violent yes, but not normally quiet at all.

Really? A 500% increase in PSA 504 over the same time last year?
I think the district would be thrilled if there were only 20 murders in the city from May-September as we have 29 already in the colder months.
Not to mention that Trinidad hasn't had a single murder in the past year and a half.
I admit, the scooter being stolen is just an assumption. I don't have any proof of it. It didn't have any tags on it, The kids seemed to be "Joy riding" it, and later in the evening I noticed a cop riding the same scooter down the street. I'm assuming that the kids dumped the scooter and the cop was in the middle of confiscating it or possibly returning it to its owner.
Was the scooter Yellow? A yellow scooter was reported stolen in NW last Monday.
It was gray

Subject: [MPD-5D] Scooters with no home
On 4/17/10, Fifth District Officers recovered two scooters in the Trinidad area, both appear to be stolen, however, there is no report for them...and hence no way to return them to their owners.
The first is a black and silver "VIP" scooter. It has "Peace Sport" on the side panels near where the rider's feet would be placed.
The other is a silver scooter with "Silver Fox" in blue and purple stickers.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hey, has anyone seen my scooter? It was stolen over the weekend. It's silver with "Silver Fox" in blue and purple stickers.
Details from MPD-5D Commander Greene:
On Sunday at approximately 1630 hours in the alley rear of 1140 Morse where a cookout was currently under way, a subject was located suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Two other victims where located at North Capitol and P street in a vehicle shot in the shoulder and arm. Subsequently, victims report that a black male subject produced a gun and shot at them multiple times striking all three subjects. All victims are currently being treated for their injuries. We are currently attempting to find out what lead to this shooting. If you or anyone in our community have information on this incident please call me immediately at 202-727-9099.
There is a great article on what you can do in your neighborhood to reduce fear here:

it's amazing that these things continue to happen in broad daylight. The only thing that's really stopping the neighborhood from becoming revitalized and cleaned up is from incidents like that.
If more pioneering young professionals are able to brave the wild jungle the riff-raff will eventually be pushed out. Of course mass casualties do speed up the process.
FYI:
ROBBERY ARREST MADE
On April 8, 2010, a suspect entered the Game Stop store located with in the Hechinger Mall shopping complex. Once inside the location he produced a handgun and robbed the store clerk of several hundred dollars and fled the scene on foot. The Fifth District responded and secured the scene. The investigative process was initiated and quickly revealed the identity of the suspect, an adult male named Demarco Scott. A short track of the suspect lead detectives to his home address, on April 19, 2010, he was placed under arrest without incident, Detectives are looking at this subject for several robberies throughout the area!!!! Excellent investigative follow up lead to Mr. Scott’s removal from of community!!!

Yeah really tough case to solve there. Dude's was caught red-handed and had his face spread all over town. Pat yourself on the back for that one.
Anon 2:00, I think a good number of homes have changed hands in Trinidad over the winter. I think this will keep up as prices slowly climb and people realize Trinidad's a bargain w/ H St right there, great bus service, and big houses.
I think trinidad is great regardless of H Street. I moved here years ago and H was not a factor. I am sure H is an attraction. Much the same way 8th SE is, but people don't always buy here because of H. Please not cast the neighborhood as a sub of H street because it isn't.
Rob - I agree with you I'm seeing a lot more white collared folks moving into the neighborhood this year. I'm just saying if it wasn't for all this nonsense shootings and etc the neighborhood would have been fully revitalized YEARS ago.
