2010 Garden Workshop Series

All workshops are free, open to the public and will be held from 10 am to 11 am at the Joseph H. Cole Recreation Center, 1200 Morse St. NE.

May 8 – Garden Bugs
Want to know more about the bugs in your garden? Tony Vlahakis of the National Arboretum will teach you how to tell the difference between helpful and harmful insects and how to deal with unwanted pests.

May 15 – Earth-Friendly Gardening
Learn ways you can be have a positive impact on our local ecosystem while creating a beautiful landscape in your yard. Master Gardener and Trinidad resident Hannah Mullen will share how you can move away from industrial, chemical-laden practices to basic, time-tested gardening.

May 22 – Curbside Gardens
Interested in sprucing up that slice of land between the street and your sidewalk? Learn the dos and don’ts of creating a curbside garden and how to get a street tree planted in front of your house. Group will participate in building a curbside garden and be provided with some plants to take home for your own curbside garden.

June 5 – Urban Composting
You don’t need an expensive store-bought compost bin in order to turn your kitchen scraps and yard waste into rich compost for your garden. Learn easy backyard techniques that don’t stink or attract unwanted pests. Composting is the ultimate recycling!
