Thank you so much for posting this. I have been wondering what I could do to help, and this is a great first step.
I checked with Steve and kids are welcome at this event. The Argo has become such a family friendly place it is nice that these kids will be able to show their support too. My boys will just be excited that they finally get to go to the Rock and Roll Hotel!
If you can't make the date, is there a way to donate?
Just to be clear, are the proceeds going to the Argonaut or to the out-of-work Argonaut staff? I'd be more inclined to help the latter and let State Farm worry about the brick and mortar
(... but I'll keep my eye out for globes)

Way to step up, R&R hotel. That's awesome. I hope everyone comes out!
The food at Argonaut was not good at all...the service was bad as well.. inside was so dark....It was like a whole in the wall.... keepin it real about Argonaut.. I hope they do not come back on Hst
Twin, please.. take your... poor grammar and....bad..attitude elsewhere!
Tom, Argonaut gets a BIG FAT F. I will not be going there again. And I will be letting others know about them as well. You have a good Argonaut Day......
Twin - good riddance.
Have to bump Supertramp's question about the beneficiary of R&R Hotel's largess. And did I read that Argonaut and Capitol Lounge share an owner? Because that joint has already caught fire twice. Seems to me that any restoration work should include a strong fire policy and maybe a touch of rewiring.
We've really been feeling the love from all our H Street family and friends, and I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who is supporting Argo. It means so much to the entire staff. From the bottoms of our bottoms, we love you guys! Hope to see you all at R and R on the 30th!

"Thanks so much to Rock & Roll Hotel (and Steve, especially) for putting together our first fundraiser! The money will benefit both our full-time staff AND Argo in general. As I mentioned on the fundraiser post, it can take years for insurance money to come through, if at all. Meanwhile, bills and mortgage payments still pile up, so Argo's only chance for survival is to get up and running as quickly as possible. We've found temporary jobs for some of our full-time staff and with the fundraiser's money we can pay the rest of the full-time staff (and others) to clean and rebuild. "
Also interested to know where the proceeds go. I want to see the Argonaut rebuild as much as the next person, but a charity fundraiser for a bar seems a little... curious.
I'd feel better knowing for sure that the money is going to the employees.
I'm surprised that everyone has such a strong affinity for a capitalist business owner who charges $9 for hush puppies but won't install proper fire suppression, carry proper fire insurance or pay his city owed taxes on time.
And he wants charity from the neighborhood?
wow it didnt take long for the trolls to come out.
And i have been told that the proceeds will be going to full time staff who are now out of a job.
Not sure how much help restaurant staff will provide with rebuilding. I wouldn't count on DCFD to get your fire report finished in 14 days either. Not to mention you should have an appropriate fire suppression system in the kitchen next time. FYI, this is why well run businesses buy business interruption insurance. You may also want to get in touch with a public adjuster ASAP if you think the claim with require years. You do have several clauses in your contract that can be invoked to prevent that from happening.
i'm so sorry to hear about the fire. the Argonaut is a very special place. i hope you guys are able to rebuild quickly.
My prayers goes out to the staff and Joe.
My prayers goes out to the staff and Joe.
...along with my contempt for the sundry dirtballs, haters, and second-guessers.
Twin, is this opposite day for you? My little-one loves to play that game, too, although he's pretty much outgrown it now.
For the record, the Argonaut was one of the true pioneers for the revitalization of H Street. They evolved from a cool funky bar to a gastronomic delight. The area wil be diminished if they don't come back just the way they were.
Some of the staff have asked for "help" and were blown off. no help given. Plus some have not been given shifts at all while others get whatever they want. If you gave money to help out the staff, just a lucky few got help while others got tired of begging and got the shaft. Shame on you Argonaut.
What the Argonaut needs to do instead of having employees Ask and beg for money, which is hard and embarassing. They need to contact EVERY employee PRIVATELY, and ask if they need help. After all isn't that what the Fundraiser was for???????
From speaking with current Argo staff, it seems the funds never actually made it out and current staff are barely scraping by. Not sure what happened to the funds after-all.
