Biergarten Haus Opens Tomorrow 9am

We've got a couple of new reviews of the spot:

Girl Meets Food

H Street Great Street

Biergarten Haus is located at 1355 H Street, and features a full traditional German menu, and a large selection of German beers, including 12 on tap.

I went last night. It's a mix of taxidermy, HD big screens, stained hard woods, and draft beer.

Unfortunately, they are still having issues with ABRA.

Keep your fingers crossed that they won't need to push back the grand opening (again).

Word is they're taking reservations for their tables and are booked solid for two weeks. That means walk-ins are standing room only. Definitely give them a call to confirm, but a friend of mine wanted to go this weekend, but instead ended up making a reservation in two weeks for what he hopes will be the U.S./Germany match.

Jaybeas is correct.

I've reserved a table for 15 on Saturday.

Should be solid.

I'm happy to see they're doing well already but at the same time annoyed this place will probably always be packed. Guess I'll continue to hang out at Argo and the CC

Reservation only? I dunno about this policy..

That is not very German beer garden like. Most places are first come first serve!

Reservations....for outdoor seeting? Apparently the owners have never been to a biergarten in Germany. I hope they change that policy, until they do I will take my business elsewhere.

Seriously! It won't be so packed if they turn everyone off by this weird resrvations policy. They're getting too big for their pants. Too bad - I was excited about this place.

Reservations? What a joke. So much for outdoor beer garden commradierie and atmoshphere. If I wanted a german restuant where I had to sit in my assigned seat, I would go to Cafe Berlin.

I agree with anonymous at 12:27, they are getting too big for their britches. I say we organize a boycott until they change this asinine reservation policy.

Just call and reserve a table.

Quit acting like a kleines madchen.

I imagine that the reservation policy--which is decidedly unbiergarten like--is only a temporary policy for the World Cup. Because this policy was never advertised, I think that this is really more of a soft-opening for people who are in the know rather than opening for the general public. So I'd reserve judgment until maybe after the World Cup.

I think everyone should write email and ask them rescind the reservation policy.

Relax guys,
it's just that the place will be packed in the beginning. They'll still have room to stand. and I understand you might still be able to find something on Open Table.

If you ever head over on a weekend morning and it's too packed, the Country Club (I think CC is only open that early on game days) and Argo will both be open at 10am on Saturdays and Sundays.

I just cannot understand why anyone objects to restaurants that accept reservations.

I MUCH prefer places that take reservations over places that don't.

I mean, isn't this the same place where everyone constantly complains about having to wait forever for a table at Granville Moore's?

Reservations are nice. You call and have them save a table for you. If a place doesn't take reservations, it's a complete crapshoot, and any plans you might have afterwards could be shot to hell.

And I don't think they'll be turning anyone away (barring a potential fire code violation)... You'll still be able to go and drink/watch the games... you just might not get full table service.

And do the reservations even cover the back patio? I have not been inside yet, but I imagine there will be sections that offer full food/table service, and sections that don't.

(Sorry for the long-windedness here.)

@ Ry

I think the distinct difference here is that the Biergarten Haus is not a restaurant, it is a bar. A bar, especially a beer hall with communal picnic benches, should never take reservations. Just my opinion.

That said, let's hope this is a "first weekend let's make sure all our friends get a chance to be there" type thing.

The reservation policy applies to the whole place, outside included. And I like resturants that take reservations, and bars that don't. They advertised the outdoor space as a biergarten, which, if you have ever been to one, is free flowing affair, with people making friends, drinking and merry making between tables. Reserved spaces kill the feel. Like 12:33 said, for a German resturant, Cafe Berlin. How is going to work anyway, if I reserve a table, do I only get to stay there for a few hours, is there more then one seating? If it was a biegarten like it was advertised, there would be no crapshoot, just a big place outside where everyone was having a goodtime, some people standing some sitting, and everyone meeting each other...you know like a biergarten in Germany. When they reach capacity, you wait your turn, like anybar. I hope they change their mind; reservations are nor the vibe was looking for.

Leave it to the nancies on FT to find something to complain out.

They're accepting reservations this weekend.

Get over it.

Go USA!

Wait, you're boycotting a place for which you cannot get reservations? That's a nice trick. I hereby announce that I will refuse to date Angelina Jolie. :-)

They are doing first come first serve on Fri (opening night) in the garden. They are all booked for the USA game and the Germany game.

I got the impression that the reservation thing is really just because of the World Cup. It will not be a normal policy - rather, just for special events...

I could be wrong.....

Anonymous said...

Since outside is booked for the games, anyone know if you can stand outside and watch??

To 2:29,

There are a ton of TVs upstairs, in addition to sweet, sweet air conditioning.

It's going to rain btw.

People have been trying to reserve stools at the pug since they announced revlutionary war part 4. I even got a giant screen. If the garten didn't make an effort to control the crowds people would bitch about the crappy service on opening night. Find a spot, grab a stool and hope wayne rooney has a bad day. Go USA.

Guys, here's a statement from owner Chris Chambers. Hopefully it clears things up:

We want to thank everyone for the overwhelming response to the Grand Opening. Obviously we were not able to get the construction done in time to do any soft openings. So tomorrow we'll have our soft/Grand/World Cup opening. Tomorrow we will be opening at 9am to the public. Just to let everyone know, we are booked solid for the USA game on Saturday & the Germany Game on Sunday from 1 to 4pm. If you come in for early games, we will kindly ask you to move to the bar at approx 1PM for the reservations coming in. After the games are over, we will be welcoming anyone who would like to come hang out with us. After this weekend we will come up with some set policies for reservations. My only goal right now is to serve the people, and we will do our very best to make this place the best it can be. Thank you very much for your understanding!

TonyT,
