The sports bar will be called "Our Place on H," and it will be owned and run by a man named Carl Williams and his wife (who recently retired from her job as a Homicide Detective with MPD). Carl Williams runs the security firm ICS Protective Services. This information comes from an item on the news exchange site My News Web. From piece:
The proposed operation will be a sports bar that caters to both local DC residents and tourists alike. The proposed is located on the new “trolley line” which will bring tremendous foot traffic. Local DC sports celebrities have already been donating memorabilia and their time to host events at the new venue.
Funding comes in the form of a commercial bridge loan from FutureGen Capital.

oh great - more drunken frat boys. I'd rather have the bums
Anon-
Good call on staying anonymous on that one, as that was the most moronic statement I have ever seen on FT. Feel free to move to an area that has more bums if you are so offended by the idea of a sports bar.
Seriously anonymous, how rude. I'm not a sports fan per se, but a nice Sports Bar would be a great addition to H St NE! Especially since it is on the lower end of H ST...i wonder when do they think they will open? Which space is it going to be in?
That's the space on the SW corner I believe.
Finally the west side of H street seems to be picking up some steam.
With the streetscaping that's already finished down here, all the empty store fronts just seem to be crying out for businesses to come and occupy them.
West end finally starting to get some action now, a sports bar is a very welcome addition!
Is the stretch of vacant buildings between 4th and 5th owned by the same owner?
I could see the western end of H Street consisting of more restaurants/shops/cafes compared with the eastern stretch of bars toward 12-14th.
why is it rude to prefer bums to frat boys?
can't a body have their preferences?
Based on how that description read, it sounds like their "sports bar" is going to cater to more of the Lounge XII crowd.
Hows that for an assumption that isn't based on much fact?
Jesse,
not sure if you are suggesting that that's the case, or just saying you expect conversation to jump that way.
If the former, exactly what part of the description gives you that?
They still have not gone in front of the ANC with this. Don't they need to and to have an agreement with the community first?
I really don't think that Carl has spoken to anyone who lives on the street and next door about anything with this place.
He has done a great deal of work with out any permits. Only after awhile was permits finally posted. Is he planning to have a kitchen and serve food? Where will the trash be dealt with? We had a serious rat problem some years ago(it was notorious a few years ago) and will we have another one because of another unkept trash issue?
Uhhh. Does the western end need a Bobby Pittman? He doesnt have jurisdiction over here does he?
Lots of his shit seems nuts, but he does also fulfill the role of telling owners to remove their trash, which seems reasonable.
Donna says-
Jesse is "suggesting" that the owners will be Black people ergo the patrons will be Black people ergo it won't really be a "sports bar" ... How's that for an assumption?
The owners skin color? These people? Really!?
