Name Change and ABRA App. at 1387 H Street

This is still the same guys who originally announced plans to open up Angelico's La Pizzeria at the same location. I had heard recently that they we're considering a name change. They wanted to give a nod to the unique scene on H Street. One possibility was Il Garage, but sounds like they've settled on Desperados. Anyway, check out the ABRA notice.

I don't seem to have any recent shots, but the building now looks MUCH better.

Too bad..Il Garage would have been good.

Are the just redoing the building, or is something new opening?

It's a pizzeria that also serves casual Mediterranean fare.

Yum, with Souk and then them, I might have to postpone moving to the Mediterranean.... :-)

Uh, those summer garden hours are totally nuts.

3am and 5am?

5 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights? What's up with that?

"Desperados Pizza" is a terrible name.

Tom A. said...

Yes, that *is* a bad name. Why don't they come to their senses?

we have enough desperados in this neighborhood. Either way, they have done a fairly good job, albeit a slow one, in fixing up that building. Hopefully it will make that corner a bit more attractive

For some reason, "Desperadoes Pizza" puts me in mind of stomach distress.

9:37,
it's common for places to apply for the maximum legal hours. But, as you can see, most places around here don't use all of those hours.

City council should lower the maximum hours then. No one on H St should be applying for or even allowed to be open until 5 a.m. This is really discouraging. I didn't realize most business were allowed to be open to 5. Does the Argonut have "permission" to stay open til 5 a.m. as well? I think this sets a bad precedence in the neighborhood and should be changed. I bet most residents didn't realize this.

why?

Where I grew up, all bars had licenses that let them serve until 4am -- but good luck finding one open that late. Long before 4am, bars closed because it wasn't financially worth it for them to stay open. I assume the same is true on H as well -- licenses may allow them to serve later, but they don't because there's no profit in it.

ABC RULES SAY:

The max you can sell liquor is:

1:45 last call Sunday through Thursday

Liquor has to be consumed and all cleaned up by 3 a.m.

2:45 Friday and Saturday. No trace of alcohol by 3:00.

That building scares the bejeezus out of me. None of the lines are straight. Their second floor windows don't come anywhere close to lining up. While watching the 'renovation' you could see them just slapping on new plaster and paint on a crumbling building.

Why the sudden change of name? Anyway,I think that is a great step. When will be the grand reopening? I'd love to attend that since I am a loyal patron of your pizzeria. Thank you and more power to you.
