Night Moves

P1010108_1

Bear with me on the photos. I've spending a little time going back through old photos and updating tags (it makes it easier when I do then and now comparisons). Anyway, I've always really liked this image. Oh, and obviously I finally made it back to DC.

What is to like about this? I HATE that place with a passion. Terrible, terrible store. Basically exists to skirt the singles ban and always some bum driking right in front of it after buying a two pack of steel reserve...

I meant that I like the photo.

I don't know ... ... i kind of like the place. The owners are always cheerful. I brought a pack of hot dog rolls there the other day. No bums in sight. The place has a kind of down home old school H Stree NE corner store vibe that's kind cool.

Don't get me wrong i like hip, trendy stuff too (like Family Dollar) i just think there's room for everyone at this party.

no worries gentrifiers... ... oh thank heaven is coming, than what? Good news... .... they probably won't have Steel Reserve.

I have no experiences, positive or negative, with this establishment yet I can appreciate this image for the artfulness of the lighting, the way the shop emits a small sliver of light through the open doors, the ambiguous red neon glow in the window - all inviting and enticing and in direct contrast to the prohbitions in the sign where please is highlighted in red.

The urban landscape photography and the winning balance of word and image are just two more reasons to appreciate Frozen Tropics.

Please, let's not lambast art and author in a single post. It seems especially bad karma.

I like that place a lot more now that they figured out how not to have their alarm go off every morning between 6 and 6:30.

A few years ago, I walked by this place. It clearly used to have a sign on the side saying "Me and My Supermarket" and extolling the items for sale: "Groceries, Fresh Meat, etc."

But half of the sign had fallen off and it only read: "Me and My Super Fresh Meat."

It still cracks me up.
