A look at what's going on in Trinidad, on H Street, and in the larger area north of Capitol Hill.

Pug FT Reader Special & Fundraiser
Tony T. sent me an email proposal about this today, and I am totally stoked. Thanks to Tony for a great idea, and for actually carrying it out. I'm thinking maybe the Capital Area Food Bank could put the money to good use. Here are the details on the event:
contrary to what many folks think, the daiquiri was historically not a frozen drink. in response to the soon to be legendary water ice wars of h street, the pug is going to run a quick frozen tropics readers only special on thursday night from 8:30 and friday happy hour til 8:30. I’m going to be pouring proper daiquiris with fresh lime juice, a manhattan based, irish whisky drink we call the shane macgowen, and our summer time knock out punch. Each drink will be $7.00 and the Shane macgowens and the daiquiris will be shaken and served ice cold and the knockout punch will be served in a mug full of ice.
Inked continuously lets me hijack frozen tropics with my inane humor, and she always announces my fundraisers (there’s one coming up on July 17th for women with breast cancer) so as a token of my gratitude, I’m going to donate a dollar per ice inspired drink served to the charity of her choice.
thanks for your continued support,

Pretty cool how this stuff can just materialize on a blog, I'll be participating.
Man, I didn't think WIW2010 (That's what I'm calling it now) could get any better! Woohoo!
Tony, whatever happened to the stickball idea? I think we should "Call Ron" and play in his waist high grass. C'mon, you can make it happen.
I've been to the Pug several times and enjoyed it up until the point that I saw "No Homos" chalked up on the board behind the bar. Might have been someone's sick humor, but I haven't and won't be back again until that's gone. Sorry.
9:59,
I was there just last night. I'm pretty certain there is no such writing. My guess, either somebody has very bad handwriting, or somebody played a temporary prank with the "No Bombs" chalk sign. Either way, it's not there now.
Okay, then I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Thanks.
Yeah, if you do notice a hacked chalk sign I would mention it to the bartender. Those signs are up high and out of the bartenders normal sight range. But having a sign that said that is really not how Tony T. rolls. The Pug is truly a neighborhood bar where everyone is welcome as long as they, as the sign says "be nice."
The summer time knock-out punch is indeed tasty, and I recommend trying it out.
Wow. tonyt! Just when I thought you couldn't be better. Thanks so much for loving our community.
Pushing Daiquiris and Summertime Punch is common practice for homophobic bars...
it's not the gays that annoy me so much, it's the filipinos and the irish. that's why i only sell one kind of flip beer and i limit the mick whiskys to 18. if the belgians didn't own bud they'ld be in trouble also.

we've got lots of ice and lots of limes, see you tonight.
@tonyt How do those cocktails measure up when mixed as temperance drinks? 8 months pregnant and trying to enjoy a few last moments of freedom...
katy, we'll figure out some kind of n/a thing for you, and to celebrate the holiday, we are going to extend the special 'til closing time friday.
