The Snow is the Star

Snow Dec 2009

In protest of the hot sticky weather the past couple of days I thought I'd share a couple of reader photos of snowier days. If your A/C isn't up to par, just look at look at the photos, and concentrate REAL HARD.

Both photos are from Moravsky Vrabec. Share your own photos through the Frozen Tropics Flickr pool. Basic Flickr accounts are free.

Does somebody know the story about those statues in the second pic?

Are they part of Vendetta restaurant, or are they leftovers from some long-ago reason. Maybe I'm imagining it, but they seem to have come and gone a few times.

Toy soldiers. Christmas decorations.
They belong to Joe Englert and have been used on a couple of buildings on H Street during the holiday season.
Did you also notice the lights and the light-up creche in the Uneeda Market space next to Gallery O?

Eureka, thanks! Can't believe I didn't put two and two together. I certainly noticed the lights along the roof lines, etc., and now I'm laughing at my question.

Dolly Vehlow asked me to post this from her and Steve Hessler, owners of Gallery O on H:
The Toy soldiers and the blue and white Christmas holiday lights in the 1300 block as well as the plaza lighting on on the Uneeda lot were
installed for the past two holiday seasons by Gallery O on H.

(I'm sorry that I gave incorrect info earlier when I said that the Toy Soldiers belonged to Joe.)

Joe Englert:

Steve and Dolly put lots of time and money into sparkling up the even side of the street during the Holidays. Can't wait til next Christmas.

Absolutely, Dolly Vehlow and Steve Hessler, though their names may not be widely know outside certain H Street circles (mostly merchant oriented) have done a tremendous amount for the area. They were active in organizing the H Street Festival (the art cars were entirely their thing). BTW, the lights are LCD (energy efficient). I have personally seen Steve Hessler offer his LCD lights to area merchants for seasonal use.

Stop by Gallery O on Thursday night. It will be open with a new cool exhibit just in time for ARTventure. From 5 to 7:30.
Plus, Dolly and Steve are having a wonderful New Orleans style jazz band in the Uneeda Market space outside the Gallery - the place with the cool Rocket Ship landmark.
Great Gallery, great supporters of H Street.

Ive always liked spotlights. Not on me of course.

I guess that the only thing left for this spotlight is a bat emblem.
