Argo Takes a 3rd Hit

Owner Scott was on the way to the bank when he stopped at CVS to pick up a prescription. The cash from Thursday's Argonaut employee benefit at Palace of Wonders was in the car ($700 cash). While he was inside someone stole his car. The car has been located (it had crashed) and the money is gone. WTF people?

------------------------------
UPDATE 5:39pm
------------------------------

Two brighter notes:
-Joe Englert has pledged to replace the stolen $700.
-The damage to the car was not as severe as I thought.
Get all the details from the Argo.

I'm sorry it happened. It's not like the thieves knew he was the owner of Argo, they saw a car, the stole it. Thieves stole a neighbor's car during the snow storm. It's what they do, their thieves.

This one is less about argo, and more about crime in Carver Terrace.

All together now . . . "Don't leave valuables in your car."

They weren't targeted, but that money was supposed to help employees of the Argo who can't work there right now. Plus, I'm sure Scott doesn't love losing his car (which he used to pick up supplies for the Argo). So, to me, that's the Argo taking a third hit.

I just figured that the broader issue of public safety was more important than an Argo tie-in. But I guess when crime happens that's not argo related...

Again sorry it happened to them, and sorry for the employee's losses. Until we fix the broader crime issue these things will continue to happen, so I guess to me it's more important to champion for overall crime reduction.

But, I'm really nobody here, so sorry Argo.

I'm so sorry to hear this.

Agreed, this is more of an issue of overall crime awareness, less of targeting Argo.

In the end, it sucks that car theft is still prevalent in the area.

Now does such irresponsibility really deserve an awwww? If I were him, I wouldn't even told anyone. Did he also leave the money on the passenger seat?? Thefts happen everywhere, so that's not a reflection of H Street. Wouldn't it had made more sense to go to the bank first? Bad decision. Period! Argo Did NOT take a 3rd hit. Those of us who donated portions of the $700 took a bad hit!

anon 1:37, words can't describe what a total idiot YOU are. if you really donated to the argo fundraiser, it seems you would have some level of compassion for the victim of this crime, rather than blaming him not preparing for his car to be STOLEN. you're just a hateful troll, continue living in a puddle of your own misery.

Anon 1:37 u r a total ass blaming the victim of this crime, and I doubt you contributed a penny to argo's fundraising

I actually agree with 1:37...

I'm glad that 1:37 has never made the wrong decision, about anything, but I have. My heart goes out to Scott. I hope they catch the crook.

Sorry to hijack the thread, we partially lost power about two hours ago. We are on the north west side of H.

funny anon 7:38, are you actually anon 1:37 the sequel?? ceases to amaze that people use their computers to hate on a person/business who is trying to make an honest living and randomly became the VICTIM of a crime in this neighborhood. and somehow in the process he is to blame??? do you know Scott and the argonaut crew? if you did, you'd know that they did not invite this misfortune. Keep hiding in the anonymous shadows of your keyboard, or dare to show your face to get slapped, cuz you ain't about shit!

Sorry to hear about this. I live on 12th and Maryland NE, and I've had my 1996 Jeep Cherokee stolen twice. Both times it was found close by with little damage.

Cherokees are some of the easiest cars to steal. But there is one very simple solution - a steering lock. I put mine on even when I leave the car for 5 minutes.

If you own a Jeep Cherokee and live in this area you're gonna want to use one EVERY time you leave your Jeep.

The dudes that stole the 700 dollars probably didn't even realize the money was in there. They probably just saw a Cherokee without a steering lock and decided it was time for a joy ride. The 700 dollars was a bonus.

Who leaves $700 in thier car?! 137 may have said it a little harshly, but they are right. You don't leave $700 cash in your car while running into a store-- in this or any neighborhood. That's just a bad decision. Call me a heartless idiot if you will-- but you all know that you wouldn't leave $700 in your car.

@rhessemo, because you, me and everyone else has never made a mistake? we all know to never leave anything we wouldn't want stolen in our cars....but we ALL HAVE. Some times that mistake bits us in the butt and sometimes it doesn't. But who are we to make someone else feel worse then they allready feel?

What good did your comment and others on this thread make? To make fun of someone's misfortune? To rub someone's nose in it? to make people feel worse?

To Scott and the staff at the Argonaut....if what my grandma says is true then bad things come in threes. Good luck with the renovation and reopening. And thanks to Joe for reimbursing the money.

Anon 10:42 - I used to live on 12th and I had a '96 Cherokee at the time and it was also stolen twice!

Got it back both times a little worse for wear after some 'joy'rides.

You are correct, all Dodge-Chrysler cars of that era are easy to hotwire - auto theft 101.

Did they ever post the cause of the fire? User error?

3:37,
I think they're still investigating. I have to say that my trust level with Pepco isn't exactly sky high right now.
