MPD Carries Out Major Busts

From the press release:

"Through a violent crime initiative called “Operation Sixth Sense”, the Metropolitan Police Department and federal law enforcement agencies in DC have focused their enforcement efforts on repeat violent offenders. The operation locations included areas of Trinidad, NE, the Rosedale NE area, and 7th and O Streets, NW."

And

"Authorities have obtained 46 arrest warrants, executed 21 search warrants, and made arrests of suspects for numerous offenses, including distribution and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, PCP, and marijuana, Oxycontin, and Percocet, and seized drugs with a street value in excess of $200,000. Seven guns and over $6,500 in cash were also seized."

Way to go MPD!

Does MPD release the photos, names, & charges of those arrested? If not, why not?

Those things are a matter of public record, and can be found. My understanding is that they are not publicized and disseminated largely because of the notion that defendants are innocent until proven guilty.

I could be wrong on this.

Chances are they'll try to turn some of these defendants against their suppliers, so they might not want to put their names and faces out there. Then again, hard to believe the suppliers don't know about the arrests.

While i am happy to hear MPD is still out there and arresting drug dealers, this news does not make me feel good at all. This just tells me that conditions in Trinidad are awful. I know we all try to put a good spin on this, but lets get serious. Drug dealing and using is rampant in Trinidad. Combine that with guns and you all know the outcome.

These types of busts should be happening every weekend. In the 4 years i lived here this is the biggest operation in Trinidad. Why is this not happening more often?????

"...areas of Trinidad, NE, the Rosedale NE area..."

Anybody know which areas?

i'd rather them get the one guy at the top of the pyramid than all these little guys at the bottom, personally.

$200K indicates an organized operation that someone is regularly supplying, i.e. the wholesaler

soul searcher: the Lester Freamon of Trinidad.

BL- you are exactly right- these types of busts should be hapenning every weekend. Why aren't they?

Do you think the uptick in highly publicized busts like this in the city is a result of the fact that Fenty is up for reelection?

To Anon @ 11:48-

If we have learned anything from the Wire...

Freamon's bust was for $16 mil which helped boost Carcetti for Governor. Is $200,000 anything? MPD's got nothing on Freamon.

I think anyone who lives in Trinidad such as me will tell you that there is far less activity on the streets this summer compared to last and it's not even comparable to what it was like 3-5 years ago.

Progress is being made, but you shouldn't expect it to be overnight, so to speak.
