And there was a murder in Rosedale (via the listserv):
The Hill is Home reported a stabbing homicide Monday night on the 1600 Block of E Street NE.
It has been confirmed by MPD...the following was extracted from the MPD 1D listserv:
"Yes, there was a homicide at that location. It occurred inside and does not appear to be random but as this is ongoing we cannot comment additionally on it."

Regardless of color, did the shooter and shot know each other? And is there any info tying the two incidents together?
Is MPD copying Chicago's attempt to *adjust* the homicide statistics by making a distinction between "inside" murders (which, according to Chicago, can't be prevented by police) and "outside" murders now?

Fair enough. But knowing whether the killer and victim knew each other makes a Hell of a difference when talking about the safety of the general public.
It's *extremely* unlikely anyone I know is going to shoot me, so if 99.99% of the murders in the area are among acquaintences, that sucks, but it's somewhat more of an academic matter than a cause for fear.
Except of those acquaintences shoot each other in front of your house and a stray bullet comes into your living room or bedroom.
Which, of course, can happen, but is incredibly, vanishingly rare. The "random bullet through the window killing a toddler" is horrifying precisely because it almost never happens.
That makes me feel much better. When my kid rides their tricycle over the blood stains on the sidewalk, I'll tell them "it's somewhat more of an academic matter."
I understand your point, but simplifying and explaining scary things to your child is part of being a parent. I'm with oboe, your kid is more likely to get hurt by crossing the street than by getting hit with a flying bullet. How do you explain car crashes to your kid?
I don't understand why these idiots feel the need to shoot each other, but as long as they are not targeting random people, I am not going to run for the hills...
