A look at what's going on in Trinidad, on H Street, and in the larger area north of Capitol Hill.

Bad Campaign Deeds?
My post on the Ward five race brought out a few interesting comments. So I'm curious, have you had/heard of any stolen campaign signs? Seen any signs wrongly attached to trees, posted in clearly vacant lots? Anything else interesting to share, including opinions on the upcoming elections? Please keep it relevant to this area, and non-defamatory/non-crazy. Mayoral election talk is ok, as is anything else city wide. But let's please stay away from shadow reps, Norton, and that stuff. I want this to stay super-local. Feel free to email me photos, or, better yet, add them to the Frozen Tropics pool on Flickr.

I saw ( i suspect) a campaign worker removing Gray signs and replacing them with Orange signs in front of UDC on Connecticut Avenue (there must have been about 20 of them on those wire post along the side walk).
Vincent Orange signs are all along Military Road and just about every lamp post in ward 3. I guess the At large seat or is that Chairman will be won in ward three. I know you hippsters don't get out of the "Atlas District" much but there's cheap beer and sushi all over town.
But seriously, i hope these public servents and their supports are as aggressive about taking the signage down as they were about putting it up.
@tarisdaddy:
That was quite the tangent there in the middle of your comment. Not really sure I'm following your point, either
Hey I'm a tangential kind of guy. My point there Jaybeas is that ward 3 is a battle ground, and some unscrupulous deeds are being done there.
As the title of the post suggest... ... And that i 'm tired of all the campaign signage. Have you been off of H Street lately? Did i see you at Sticky Rice?
Is this a hipster vs old timer election?
I had a Fenty yard sign stolen from my yard. I can't vote for Gray since he tried to kill the streetcar.
I don't know who I'll vote for in Ward 5. None of the candidates seem very appealing. I want somebody whose focus is on cutting down the DC government and attracting business to Ward 5.
I have always been baffled by the concept of yard signs and bumper stickers supporting one candidate or another. I mean does anyone care who I vote for? I certainly dont care who my neighbors or the person driving in front of me supports. I dont think a yard sign or bumper sticker will change anyone's mind about who to vote for so what is the purpose of them?
Taris, sorry to disappoint, but I see Vincent Orange signs all over wards 5 and 6, as well.
And again, sorry to disappoint, but I live in Ward 5, generally hate Sticky Rice (due to their poor service) and would definitely never be described as a hipster. Yay stereotypes!
@tarisdaddy:
1) this is a blog devoted to Trinidad/H Street, so not surprisingly its posts deal with Ward 5/6 issues.
2) you're more likely to have seen me at Taylor than at Sticky Rice.
I had Fenty signs put in my (prominent, corner) yard without my permission. I hear this is happening all over - not just on the Hill (I'm a block northwest of Lincoln Park).
That's beyond unacceptable. I'm on the fence, but that is a major point against Fenty.
Nichole - Here's the rub:
I've heard that technically homeowners do not own their front yards, so if you look at your plot in city records, you only only the land that your home is on. This is why you have to get a permit to do work around your house (i.e. fencing in a front yard).
Given that, it may be legal for candidates to put up signs in "your" yard.
The real question here is: if the city owns my front and back yards, why dont they pick up the trash and crap that teens drop in it and mow the grass???
Nichole and Jessica,
while it is true that SOME homeowners don't own their whole front yards (I actually do own all of mine) that doesn't mean that private campaigns can just come in and stick the signs in people's front yards. That's pretty obnoxious behavior, and a big NO NO.
