New Orleans Fare Coming to 1118 H Street

HStreetDC spills the beans on Twitter:

HstreetDC
New neighbor for @TaylorGourmetDC. Building at 1118 will be NOLA food - by people FROM there, or maybe Mediterranean. Plans moving #HSt

So is this the guys from Desperados Pizza Slice of Life (opening in late October at 14th and H)? They were rumored to be scoping out a second site on H Street. 1118, pictured above has been vacant since Birdland closed its doors a few years back.  This makes two restaurants coming to H Street that plan to serve up food like that found in the Crescent City. The other restaurant is Tru Orleans, which is going in at 400 H Street.  Those currently craving Creole cuisine should check out Little Miss Whiskey's during Saint's games.

Confirmed. This is the same guys who are behind Slice of Life.

I'm a little confused - NOLA food from people who are from there.......or maybe Mediterranean? Which is it? I'd be very excited for an authentic NOLA place.

What does anyone know about the building on the other side of Taylor? I think it's an old bank. It looks like it could be pretty cool if someone gave it some love.

It's a credit union.

Thanks Inked. It's currently open and running? I'm a 9-6er so, never down there during the day?

I believe it's still up and running, but I can't say for sure.

Does anyone have the contact info for the guys opening this place? Used to live and work in nola in the same business, and would love to see what, if any, kind of employees they're looking for. Any help is much appreciated!

Um, hello.

Is Popeyes not tru Cajun?

What? No?

Hillman, who's talking Cajun? I'm talking Creole.

But, true story, in college I volunteered in NOLa for a couple of weeks (not my first or last trip down there), and one day this nun bought us lunch...fried chicken from Popeye's. She loved the stuff.

I do know that the Studio 400 building at 4th & H Streets will be a New Orleans bar called Tru Orleans. So, this means we will be getting two NOLA type of places? Cool.

No, Hillman, Popeyes is not Cajun. Not Creole either. Just great fried chicken from a company founded by Al Copeland in New Orleans in the 1970s that became a local classic because everyone loves the stuff. Served from the finest homes in the Garden District to the most modest homes is Gentilly, Mid-City, or Algiers. Or on your fishing boat.
My father was Cajun from one of the River Parishes. Never saw anything remotely resembling Popeyes chicken in any Cajun home I ever ate in.
Never saw it in any Creole home in New Orleans where I was raised either until the Popeyes chain was founded. Before Popeyes, we all bought our fried chicken from Jim's on Carrolton Avenue.

Soooo...what is going to happen to "Tru' Orleans" on 3rd Street NE with the influx of another competitor?

I'm now hearing that the guys at 1118 are leaning more towards the Mediterranean direction.
