Here's a bit more info on tomorrow's fundraiser (lifted from the Jimmy Valentine's page):
Annual Fundraiser for the
Wheatley Education Campus
After Care Program
On Thursday September 30, Jimmy Valentine's hosts our annual fundraiser for the Wheatley Education Campus After Care Program from 6 PM til 9 PM. This is our most important event of the year at either bar. Catrice Simpson runs the After Care program, which is located in Trinidad and has more than 200 students ages K through 6th. The program keeps local kids engaged in positive and productive activities and off of the streets after classes are done every day. Annual funding is only $1,000 from District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), but Catrice has never actually received any of this money. Our fundraiser, which has raised more than $5,000 the last two years, makes possible such projects as the play adaptation of The Wizard of Oz, the creation of a yearbook by and for the students, fashion shows, field trips, and a host of other events and opportunities. We use the funds to buy the specific teaching and learning tools as needed by Catrice, which we then donate directly to her. This means 100% of the money we raise goes directly to the program.
In exchange for your $20 donation, we offer three free drink tickets. Capital City Diner will be catering free food for the event and Ward 5 Councilmember Harry Thomas will be there as well. We can accept cash or checks made out to Trinidad Neighborhood Association, which is our registered non-profit corporation. If you are unable to attend the event, you can click this link and go directly to the PayPal account we set up for Trinidad Neighborhood Association.
Every donation helps.
Many people talk about making a difference; this is an opportunity to act on it.
