I was going to ask the same thing. When I came home around that time I saw the chopper circling and many cops down 10th and 11th at H St. The chopper seemed to be circling back towards H once it got over Florida, it didn't actually come over Trinidad from what I saw. It was searching for someone south of Florida
Yeah, that mural on the wig shop was one of the last visages of the H Street of old. The first one to go was the MLK mural where the new Cricket cell phone store is. -Jordan
You forgot to include a picture of Arboretum Place, which is perhaps the most significant of all the construction going on. First large scale luxury development along H St!!!
Stanton Sez: speaking of Arboretum Place. via DCist, here's a flickr album of photos from 1980s DC. a remarkable time machine, if you have a few mins, scroll thru them. [warning: if you hate gentrification, this will make you wistful and/or angry about the transformation of the city]
this one in particular appears to be of the old Sears dept store that occupied the location where Arboretum Place is being built on Bladensburg:
Last nite, a chase started on the other side of the river, went trhough 6d, 5d and into 1d. At 13th and h the traffic was bad, so the two fleeing dummies went up on the sidewalk, skimed a few people(they had just finished some whisky at the pug and were left unharmed), then lost control of the motorcycle by the fuitbat/pug complex and fell down. The jungle animals then ran down the street with chaz, the youngest bartender on h and several police in pursuit. Some hipsters in very tight jeans joined the chase in front of sticky rice. Then the helicopter flew in with loudspeakers blaring the benny hill theme. The bad men turned at 12th and one of them tossed a gun into a trash truck, ran around some cars parked on the sidewalk by h$&d, into the gross alley. Luckily the city has not paved the alley so the bad man was quickly apprehended by mpd when he fell into a sink hole. An alert dpw fella got the gun out of the trash truck, and i had some whisky. tonyt thepug ps. That is the queen vic.
Unfortunately, IS industries does a hack job on all their H Street "renovations." You can tell cheap construction when they shrink the window opening to fit a pre-existing window. That is why there is so much white filler around the off-center middle window on the 12th and H wig shop in the picture.
Other failed IS industries project included 1242 H St NE, where they wanted to build a cheap 4 story building and instead of waiting for the BZA hearing, just started illegal construction.
They also did a hack job at 1328 H St NE. The zoning rules say that the ground floor should have a 14' ceiling. The dropped the ceiling and it looks about 8'-9', which is inappropriate for retail uses.
You would think that the lack of any tenant in IS Industries "renovated" buildings would clue them into the idea the market doesn't want their cheap renovations. Hopefully they will go bankrupt before they touch another H Street structure.
Clearly a little long winded, but mpd did a good job, and all joking aside we're pretty lucky no one was hurt. So to celebrate how whisky kept everybody safe last nite, from 9 'till 11 we'll do shot and a bo for $5. Tell chaz nice chase, shot and a bo please. tonyt the pug
maybe refrain from the 'jungle animals' moniker next time tonyt, even though their actions were ridiculously dangerous and they don't deserve much dignity. glad no one was hurt, and the damn fools were caught.
We had the jungle animal thread a long time ago. Not sure i can avoid using that term. I expect that if the shoe fits, it has to be worn. Fleeing the police, armed, on a sidewalk with pedestrians, after robbing snd pistol whipping a cabbie and his passenger? Sorry, didn't mean to offend. However, we went over this before on ft, come by for a whisky, snd we can come up with a term that won't lump jungle animals unfairly with the garbage. tonyt the pug
I have to agree with Tony T, jungle animals is a fitting term for the armed riff raff running down our streets. I apologize in advance to all the wonderfully behaved lions, tigers, and bears who are reading the FT blog and may be offended.
Has anyone thought about a public exhibit of these jungle animals? I know 3rd and H st has been used for various art exhibits. Lock them in a cage and identify their crimes. Maybe this would reduce their desire to engage in hooligan like behavior.
if those guys are jungle animals, what do you call the guys who steal whole countries, killing hundreds of thousands of civilians in the process?
they're petty criminals. and not very bright ones or they'd realize that they could rob people with knives and get off with barely a slap on the wrist in this town.
all this anonymous talk about caging people and publicly executing them is absurd. the criminal justice system in this country has a hard enough time convicting actual criminals for me to trust them with deciding who to publicly execute. this whole tendency to just randomly arrest brown people just ruins the whole appeal of your juvenile medieval fantasies, now doesn't it? 'less of course you don't mind a lynching of someone brown just for the sake of it, of course.
soul searcher: sorry, but your referring to this situation as "random arrest of brown people" makes you look like a demagogue. Are you claiming that the people who've posted what they saw right in front of their faces didn't actually see it?
Never said anything about race, they were wearingg helmets, and the bike had vermont tags, no idea of the race. I do know if they had run over someone instead of brush them, it wouldn't have seemed petty. If that bike had rolled through the pug's window into the front booth it wouldn't have been petty. Sure, pol pot was a jungle animal, so was stalin, hitler. Doesn't change what happened thursday night. If this had been a geopolitical discussion i could have run down every peice of shit, jungle animal who wreaked havoc on others. I prefer not to sugarcoat things, and i'ld prefer not to be threatened, robbed, or run down by a gun, a knife or a motorcycle. tonyt thepug ps. As i said, we went down the jungle animal thread before. Much more fun to look at the construction, good and bad, and the strides forwards and backwards this city is making, and hope that the occasional jungle animal doesn't drag us too far down.
Chris, someone wrote two nasty messages. One involved the word "cracker," and the other said something like [gay slur] get our of our city. They also drew a large penis.
Cool, cracker and anti gay. I have a fondness for being called a cracker but that's just me. Ah well, just a petty crime right. No harm no foul. Let's not hurt anyone's feeling with terms like jungle animal. tonyt the pug.

Anyone know why the police copter was circling around the southern part of Trinidad last night around 1 am?

I always thought the wig shop location had great potential but I'll miss the mural. Do we know what's planned for the wig shop location?
Hopefully a new and improved wig shop.

H Street needs a luxury wig shop for all those gentrifiers that demand lattes and pet supplies.
Why not combine them? A luxury wig shop that sells lattes and pet supplies for all of your Atlas District needs!

I cannot wait to tell my friends in Greenpoint, BK.

wow tonyt,
You should consider becoming the Frozen Tropics Crime reporter. Seriously. Good reporting. Be careful though.

how about just public executions? I dunno maybe crucifixions while people walk by.....seems like it was done in the past....hmmm......
sigh.

Such a hard time convicting criminals that we have the largest per capita prison population in the world!

I like the idea of making convicted criminals sitting on display for "art" and public scorn. It actually may reduce crime.
It would be much better than having them locked away for a few weeks with their friends. That's too much like camp.
seems metro mutts was the target of racist vandalism last night.
What happened at Metro Mutts? Can you be more specific?
