Tonight: Food & Beer Pairing at LMW

Liberty Tree and Little Miss Whiskey's have teamed up to offer you a terrific series of four beer and food pairings. Door opens at Little Miss Whiskey's (1104 H Street) at 5:30, and food service begins at 6pm. More info after the jump.

$20 for four pairings

Grilled Butternut Squash, Pecans, and Arugula Salad w/ Fig Vinaigrette paired w/ Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale. Most pumpkin beers are pretty dreadful. this mildly seasoned, full-bodied ace is the only exception we've found; we thought the nose on this seasonal ale compliments this seasonal dish

Smoked Duxbury, MA, Oyster w/ Thyme and Horseradish Cream paired w/ Hofbrau Hefe-Weizena breakfast wheat beer: light and crisp w/ frothy yeast w/ traditional weissbier hints of banana and clove. the citrus contrasts the richness of the dish & hopefully cleanses the palate.

Grilled Sea Scallop w/ Bacon, Frisee, and a Spicy Vermont Maple Syrup Glaze paired w/ Kulmbacher EKU 28. We chose this high-octane doppelback suggesting rum-raisin, vanilla, and caramel in an effort to extend the massive flavors of the scallop/syrup/bacon combo.

New England-style Mini Whoopie Pie
paired w/ New Holland Dragon's Milk
this silky smooth dark ale gets its toffee and vanilla overtones after aging in bourbon barrels. Be sure to sip this before sampling the dessert, as the dessert's massive sugar content will overwhelm even this beer's monstrous flavor profile.

Food portions are small; servings of beer are 4-5 ounces. In order to properly prepare, we can only serve the full tasting of four courses. We do this because we love trying to bring special events to life and we sincerely hope you enjoy this as much as we do. Thank you!

Lets hope they've painted over the gold on the new light pole someone has defaced in front of LMW. What's up with that?

Sorry for the hijack, but has anyone else noticed the gold painted base around one of the NEW light poles in front of Miss. Whiskey’s Golden Saloon? Was this something done by Miss. Whiskey’s as a publicity stunt or did someone else vandalize this light pole? It seems it would be illegal to deface city property like this. Just wondering if anyone else knew about this? Thanks.

Would you support an array of colors painted on the new lamp posts up and down H St. or just the one in front of Miss. Wiskey's? I think I'll go paint one orange, is that my prerogative. It's definately some form of vandalsim and it should be removed immediatly. If Miss. Wiskey's did it I hope they're heavily fined for defacing the new streetscaping. I think it's completely unacceptable.

In short: we got your point so you don't need to keep flogging it. Why not find out why it was done and who did it before shrieking "vandalism!" and threatening to paint the town orange?

That's exactly what I am asking, does anyone know who did this? Was it LMW or someone else? I guess it doesn't matter to anyone else that someone is spray painting the new light poles? It certainly seems like vandalism to me, regardless of who did it.

Maybe it was a publicity stunt? Is it even still on there?

I like the gold-painted base on the lamp post in front of LMW.
Much more interesting and attractive than the horrible red pierced-metal signs that DDOT hung on them.

And my question is, can any of us just randomly paint one of the new light posts? Who knows, maybe this is something that has been approved and permitted. I'd like to find out and wondered if anyone else on here knew anything about it or even cared for that matter. Maybe I'm the only one that has an issue with someone painting the new poles.

Correct. I'm going to paint one tonight. I'll let you know how it goes!

To the anonymous poster who repeatedly posts about the gold light post. Please use handle or you name. If someone were to read these comments it come across as more then one person asking this question. But it appears to be only one person asking it repeatedly.

If you don't own a business on H Street, it would be pretty rude to paint the lamp post in front of somebody else's place, wouldn't it? That would be vandalism.

If a business painted the base of the one right in front of their own property to coordinate with their signature colors, what would be the harm? Red in front of Sticky Rice. Green for the H Street Country Club. Some tropical color for Fruit Bat. A nice 1970s aqua for Toyland.
Most business owners probably wouldn't do it, but a few of these might look quirky and fun.
It might make H Street more interesting than the same-old, same-old that DDOT seems intent on imposing.

Well, the food pairing sounds good. If the pug ever gets a strretlamp i'm gonna paint the base black. It matches my general mood. By the way, watch for $3 pbr tall boys on sat the 30th. They are painted red white and blue.

Folks this is a post about food & Beer, Why are we discussing about the light pole?

You are right. (Rain thwarted the painting last night). Whats your thought on the meanest vindaloo in town? GO!

The gold base on the light pole looks good. Gee, if other people painted other poles different colors, H Street might not look like Dulles Town Center! If that's the worst thing you have to worry about, count your blessings.

Let's spray paint all the poles. What's wrong with that? I like the idea of color coordinating with the businesses (Country Club/Green, Toyland/Turquoise, etc.). Should we start a petition or just go out and do it?

Are multi-colored light posts part of the new street scaping plan or is this some random event?

OMG, Anonymous 1:55! What are you thinking?
This has to be guerrilla lamp post painting!
If you try to organize it, DDOT will demand that you get a public space permit, clear the colors with them, take it to the ANC for approval, get the neighbors for two blocks around to sign off,and pay for a permit. They might even demand that you use a registered minority contrator.
Just paint the frigging thing in the dark of night over a weekend.
