At first it was to be Best Wings, but since there was such a back lash on wings the concept was changed. It is Marvelous Pizza. A sit down restaurant. I have no idea if there will be take out or what the menu is. It does make me wonder when the construction on that lot will begin.
On a somewhat related note, there was a lot of work on recently torn-down lot on the Southwest corner of 3rd and H. A good portion of the lot was paved and painted for parking spots. I guess that gives us some idea of how far off that lot will be from construction as well.
CVS near Harris Teeter! Wohoo! Surprised we missed this - but we were walking last night and saw the signs near Harris Teeter that a CVS is coming soon!
Any other new places popping up? Any news on a Whole Foods/Trader Joes/Target?? My dream stores to move to this area :)
Love the new market - great to have Harris Teeter in our neighborhood!
i just noticed a couple of restuarants near the Harris Teeter too. Potbellys and something called Roti. Yeeeeeeeesssssssssss. While I love our local eateries, I am originally from the suburbs and am used to getting food during "regular" restaurant hours (e.g. 11AM to 10PM). Its so annoying when you walk down to places on H and they have random hours or dont open until 1. At least now I know I can carry my hungry ass down to Potbellys.
If that's your bag, you know that Five Guys, Sisters, and Au bon pain are all near Harris Teeter as well? Been there for a while, too, but I'd imagine Potbelly's will suffer the same office lunch rush as the ones I just mentioned.
By "Sisters" did you mean Heidi's Deli/pizza? They're out of business. There's a Roti downtown on Penn Ave near the White House, it isn't bad but for a place named "Roti" you'd think they'd actually have....roti. Tynan's coffee & tea isn't bad and it's cozy inside, I prefer Pound though.

The explanation for this is somewhat circular- they have spotty hours because currently business is spotty, which in turn means that people find them unreliable and are less likely to go there. Rinse & repeat. The chains that get mentioned here won't come in until they have enough guaranteed business. In the meantime you get mom & pop places who may be losing money on a night when business is slow, so they close early to cut their losses. Giving these guys your business will lead to better hours, and vice versa.
8th & el, I am sick of Au bon pain and dont like meals of grease with a burger and fries on the side (Five Guys), so the newer places are exciting for me.
I do try to give my business to the local places though.

Avoid the Noid.
So I guess with all the new leasing, we can pretty much right the H Street Connection development off for the next 5 years or so?
Will they serve chicken wings?

the backlash was against serving wings?
or just that it wasn't a sit down place?
are specific dishes really that backlash worthy?

I think, specifically, it was a backlash against cretins throwing their shit everywhere.
Makes sense, as the H Street Connection won't get re-developed for at least another 5 years.

Two Sisters/Heidi's closed a while ago... but 7-11 just opened across the street from there on 2nd next to Au Bon Pain.
