the Pug has made a new friend in the food truck Purveyors of Rolling Cuisine. Consider tonight the soft opening. They'll be serving up pulled pork, smoked beef, homemade veggie burgers, and artisan sausage. The fun starts circa 9:30 tonight. Don't miss it.

just a few clarifications. The truck is called PORC (purveyors of rolling cuisine). We will be serving a limited menu with limited amounts, so make sure to come early! See ya there!

What's the food like at new toyland?
YUMMY! Much improved.
Whoever you are, please just stop.
Josh, best of luck to you. I'm normally not a big food truck fan but the words smoked beef sounds good to me!
totally random side note about langston bar and grille. i just went there tonight and feel very ripped off. why? because i ordered the salmon and creamy grits, the server said they had no salmon cakes but had crab cakes. i tried to close out my check before the meal got to the table and the server said (and i quote) "nah, chill out", which i thought was odd, but i rolled with it. after i finished my meal, he charged me $16 instead of the menu advertised $12 for the salmon and grits dinner, saying "crab cakes and grits are a different meal". i didn't feel like arguing over $4 in front of a lady friend, so i rolled with that (against my instinct). when i got home, i checked their menu online and i see that there is no such entree as "crab cake and grits". i also realize they didn't charge sales tax (every restaurant meal i ever had in this city came with additional tax). wtf? i like the food there, but i don't think they'll ever see a dollar from me again.
Alan, might I suggest that this would be the perfect opportunity to inform the owner, Antonio, of your experience at his place. I'm certain he wouldn't tolerate the poor service from his employee. You not going there does nothing to punish the poor employee. They couldn't care less. You're hurting the owner of a place that you say yourself, you otherwise liked if not for the bad experience.
Some people have a lot to learn when it comes to good customer service. Believe me, I've had to deal with the same issues. Unless you share your experience with the owner, it's bound to happen again.

Anon 5:18 and Anon 5:48: I was in there recently and Toyland doesn't have food any more.
I think Inked needs to take her camera/phone to the Pug sometime. For years almost every single article about the Pug has used this photo. :) Maybe a photo of Tony or Chaz looking tough.
11:02,
Toyland recently rolled out a new menu.
I haven't been back to Langston since I went there with a friend about a year ago. Went in, and we ordered drinks. During our meal, the bartender kept saying, "here, let me top that off for you" and poured a little more liquor each time. I assumed it was a nice gesture, but got hit with a hefty bill at the end.
Was starting to go there on a regular basis, but my dollars go elsewhere now.
The proper response to a server telling you "nah, chill out" is to gently flip your entire meal onto the floor and walk out.
Frank, might I suggest that a business owner monitor his shop proactively and not hire douchebags? After I get railed at a spot, last thing on my mind is "gee, I bet the guy that hired this guy is totally alright, and will totally do something about this if I say something." Nah, been to the Argo one too many times to fall for that one, my friend.
Of *course* 9:56pm posted anonymously. Of *course*.
so sorry. of *course.* How *rude* of *me.* There, I *fixed* it. So *much* more *substantive* now.
Anyone who has been involved in hiring knows it is impossible to avoid all douche bags. The hate that spews towards local businesses here shows the world is full of douche bags!
It's weird how people come on this site just to be negative about places like Argo, Toyland, Sticky Rice, etc. Luckily, all those establishments seem to be doing well, so the douche bags on this site must not be having much of an effect.
The point, Anon 9:56, is that it's totally predictable that insults like yours about a real person with a real name that everyone in the nbhd knows would be posted without putting *your* name on them. That said, I suspect you knew that, but just chose to be obtuse in your reply.
Just for the record, I've had excellent service at the Argonaut and Sticky Rice lately. Maybe because Argonaut is restarting, they seem to be making an extra effort to get it right. The place is much nicer, most of the servers more professional, and the food really good.
Service at Argonaut is usually pretty Good......but it is ALWAYS TERRIBLE at Sticky Rice. Whether you are calling to get take out, picking something up, or sitting down the individual you end up dealing with is confused and doesn't seem to care too much about helping you. I like the food but when deciding to eat there or not I always have to decide if I have enough energy to go through an ordeal to get some food.
Anon 9:56 Can we not use the term D-bag when referring to a person. They might not be a great server but they probably aren't horrible people. Instead of calling them names anonymously, you should tell the owner/ manager about the "poor service."
Also, Anon 9:56 I think you missed the point of Frank's comment.

I hear this all the time about Sticky Rice but I've never had anything but awesome service when I've gone there.
Last Sunday I went to Sticky Rice around 1 p.m. It was full but not packed, we waited about five minutes for a table. The initial service was slow (drinks, getting food order) but after that everything came promptly. Overall service was B.
With the hope that this criticism will be taken constructively (which is why I'm posting this), I have to say that I have been really really amazed at the poor service at Sticky Rice.
There have been several instances of poor service in the past, but the most recent one for me was last week when I called ahead for takeout (which I was going to pickup).
The hostess told me that they were not taking any takeout orders anymore over the phone and that only way I could order food would be to show up in person and order in person for takeout.
Needless to say, my jaw hit the floor when I was told this.
I have never called a food establishment and been told that I can't order takeout over the phone, only in person.
Generally, I think the service at Sticky is pretty pathetic and borderline contemptuous. I think I'll be boycotting them for the foreseeable future...
JJ- This is one of the managers of Sticky Rice and I appreciate your feedback. First and foremost, we apologize for the poor communication on the part of our host. Our policy is that we offer takeout at all open hours except during peak dinner hours when it can affect our dine-in customers' wait times. I had a meeting with the hosts about this and one admitted that it was probably them and that they explained it poorly. They were recommending that you come in and place your order at the bar and thus could sneak in an order. We hope that this helps explain things but please send me your email to "comments@stickyricedc.com"- We'd like to make it up to you- And for everyone else that commented we really appreciate your support and loyalty. We have turned over a new leaf in 2011 and are focusing all efforts on excellent service. If you have anything but a stellar experience we would really appreciate hearing about it with details (i.e. server names, etc) so that we have an opportunity to fix the problem.
