Am I missing something here? How is the photo related to the Salvation Army?

I took the photo inside the salvation army.

I dont get it. Are we being encouraged to go to the Salvation Army?

Or maybe I'm encouraging to buy ceramic pigs. I just thought it was a funny photo.

Not a big fan of the Salvation Army, although that pig or whatever it is is mighty cute.

Salvation Army is virulently anti-gay. I can easily find worthwhile charity groups that don't hate gays.

Had a homeless brother that used to try to rely on SA for assistance. He says they would routinely rant anti-gay and anti 'liberal' messages pretty much every time they got a chance.

My pops used to do volunteer work with SA. He said the same thing - that they seemed obsessed with the gay thing.

So no. No Salvation Army for me.

If they were the only charity game in town, maybe I'd consider it. But they aren't.

Hillman, have you personally heard the anti-gay rants from the SA?

Someone should buy Mr. Hillman a ceramic pig to cheer him up.

My personal friend Google shows me more than a handful of examples of SA stating that they believe it's their right to discriminate against gay people. What with them going to court and whatnot over the issue.

But no I have never personally witnessed a SA indoctrination.

But I do tend to trust my father, a lifelong very conservative minister, when he says even he found the anti-gay focus to be odd.

And my homeless brother may be a lot of things, but he's not stupid. He knows an anti-gay rant when he hears it.

The pig is kinda creepy.

Yeah, Salvation Army sucks from top to bottom. Their anti-gay stance has been well-documented. And the staff at the SA on H Street have always been pretty...well, let's just say 'curt' to me when I've been there.

There's a Goodwill on South Dakota Ave just a few minutes away: basically head out NY Ave and take the South Dakota exit just before you head over the bridge. It's on the left.

Staff is friendly and the national organization is not doing the work of Satan.

I didn't realize that SA was actually constituted as a "church" rather than as a non-profit organization with an independent board to provide oversight:

And they're a church of the more intolerant kind. More here:
