GGW: Redistricting Game

The new census presents us with a chance to make big changes to our political map. We can move Ward lines, and redraw ANC maps. What will that mean for us right here? Some people have asked me if I think Carver Langston will move to Ward 7.  I don't really know, but it's interesting to consider all the different possibilities. And now you can play with different scenarios thanks to the folks over at Greater Greater Washington. They have come up with their very own redistricting game. Have fun playing.

Oh good grief. I'm on the eastern edge of Ward 6. Does this mean I now have to worry about Marion Barry becoming my councilmember?

I feel you Anon, but think of it this way, if more people like you are included in ward 8, there may be enough to vote new folks in.

Don't count on Barry getting voted out of office any time soon:

2008 Council of the District of Columbia, Ward 8

Marion Barry (D) 92%
Darrell Danny Gaston (I) 4%
Yavocka Young (I) 4%
Write-in 0%

The eastern end of Ward 6 would move to Ward 7, not 8. Yvette Alexander is far, far, far better than Barry. She's start on development on transportation issues, and has a lot in common with Wells.

sorry "smart" not "start"

What a hoot! I moved ward 7 south a bit to increase its size, and had ward 8 move across the river to include SW DC to increase the size of ward 8. To reduce ward 2, I gave it to ward 8 (SW DC) and a bit to ward 6.

I also re-instituted Kingman Park to its rightful place in ward 6!

Oh- ward 6ers, you do NOT want to be put in ward 7 or 8. Your resident parking pass will switch wards as well, and your free neighborhood parking will mostly be across the river!

Say goodbye to parking anywhere near H Street or eastern market as a "Local."

I don't know if I'd call this fun. More like terrifying.

Tom A is right, Kingman Park should be in Ward 6.

3:45,
Unless you give up the SW waterfront you aren't yanking anything back from Ward 7. I'm predicting 8 grabs from 7, 7 grabs from 5, & 5 probably moves east (could move south, but less likely). 6 would creep easy into 2.

or maybe 6 would move WEST into 2, inked?

Tom,
I actually meant to suggest that both 5 & 6 would move west.
