Yeah I've given up on H street on the weekends. It's getting too crowded for me. Thankfully I live a few blocks away so I can go during the week to get my H street fix.
Luckily, the hostess at Sticky Rice was able to get us in a little earlier since so many people ahead of us turned out to be no-shows. She said the biggest problem they have is when people reserve tables on Open Table and then never show up.
I think there should be some kind of VIP pass for people from Ward 5 and 6...i.e., show your voter card and get moved to the head of the line if you're from the 'hood.
As crowded as it's been lately on the weekends, imagine how much more crowded it will be once the trolly is running and parking becomes available again along H. We're gonna need more bars/restaurants to open up!
@JJ Sticky Rice and Granville have always been like that. Same with Toki, even though "always" with Toki is only a few weeks.
It's a good problem to have, and at least we live close enough to where we can go to these places during the week or on Friday HH's when its not packed. Buy some good cookbooks for your Friday-Saturday meals.
Yeah, more bars and restaurants. But also more stuff to do, other than eat and drink.
Book stores. Record Stores. Independent Movie Theater. Bowling Alley. More Art Galleries. More live music venues. Late hours clothing and accessory boutiques etc etc. I love all the new bars and restaurants, but we need some retail!
We usually cook in on Friday and Saturday nights to avoid frustration.
We really enjoy a meal at home, maybe on the patio, and then a leisurely stroll down H to see all the hubbub before ducking back into the residential neighborhood. Most places on H are great Sunday - Thursday.
No one buys paperback books anymore (Kindle is the way to go), record stores are history, economic downturn has rendered art galleries not a viable business option. Retail perhaps.
Kindle is the way to go, unless you want comic books, graphic novels, coffee table books, large format books, DIY books, manuals, magazines, world newspapers, etc.
There's still plenty of life left in print media, especially for boutique bookstores that have broad appeal (like Busboy's & Poets-- there always needs to be a place for a book signing).
Most record stores are history, but there's certainly a market for vinyl. There's plenty of demand for a specialty vinyl store in NE, and H Street would be the perfect place.
also, if you subscribe to a magazine on the kindle, and then cancel the subscription, ALL of your prior issues are deleted. i saw that on gizmodo or engadget the other day. that totally sucks!
We meet every at SOVA Wednesday 11 a.m. and soon one Monday evening a month and brainstorm with landlords, public officials and would be business owners about H street retail. Please join us if you want to meet up/partner up or discuss your plans with others..........Everyone welcomed

Good Review- Are the waiting times still crazy or has it calmed down a bit?
I think they had a one hour wait on Sunday. Go early, and go during the week. Maybe on a Tuesday...
We went around 6:30 on a Wednesday. Walked right in to great seats by the front windows.
Definitely better than fighting the crowds on the weekends.

Second what L street said. We tried H St. this past Saturday and got the following:
Stick Rice: 1.5 hour wait
Granvilles: 2 hour wait
Toki: 2.5 hour wait
Khans: 1 hour wait

I really need to start typing up a business plan.
